With one round left to go, the Six Nations hit an unexpected finale as Scotland dismantled title favourites France at Murrayfield, putting in possibly their best performance in two years and sending France hope tae self-isolate and think again. So how did Scotland win what may just be the last-ever test match, and end France's Grand Slam dreams?

Now that there are no sports virtually anywhere, It'd be interesting if you analysed historic rugby matches, like 1995 South Africa v New Zealand RWC final, or Argentina's back to back wins against France in 2007. Just saying.

One thing that nobody seems to be mentioning is the skill, speed and awareness shown by the big ol' lump that is Grant Gilchrist in scrum halfing it for Maitland's 1st try. Had someone like Itoje or AWJ done it I suspect people would be extolling the virtues of their phenomenal skills. Just saying.

Scotland kicked behind French wingers a ton. Instead of trying to beat their heads against a rush defense. When France kicked back, Scotland had more room to run into & exploit. It was one of the most sensible & effective tactics I've seen used against a Sean Edwards aligned defense.

Funny thing, I had followed every match from France in this tournament on the computer (I live in Canada). During the week before the match, there were signs of impending doom: Camicha getting injured and the coronavirus fear coming leading to some matches gerring delayed except this one. Plus, we had the usual french supporter overhyping themselves (urr durr the Grand Chelem is ours, Scotland is gonna be a formality. This would not end well. I was on my road to the Niagara Falls (yeah I'm a tourist and it was holiday week in Québec) and I would not be able to follow the match. Another bad sign. And then, we made a stop at Niagara village, and in front of us, beyond the river, the USA with I, looking at the fort before us like Napoléon viewing England from the camp de Boulogne. The fort on the other side was Fort Niagara... The site of an english victory during the Seven Years War. Just then, Ntamack was wounded. This wasn't good. Not good at all. The rest is history.

SPOILER FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS: this guy has no clue what he is talking about. More recommended watches during this period: Black Mirror (for a reminder of the shit we're in) and the much forgotten Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe. In fact, watching Screenwipe last night I got thinking that you, Squidge, are essentially the Screenwipe for rugby. If you're looking for content to cover right now, how about branching out and trying to cover either rugby-related news OR just news in general. We need some satire during this period. With Charlie too busy working on Black Mirror for Netflix, maybe you can fill those shoes 😆😆

Talking about France's defense without mentionning that France was at 14 for more then half of the game, is a mistake in my opinion. defense was planned with 15 men, to prove my point Scotland hasn't scored any try during France's time at 15. Clearly the Scottish tries were much "easy" to score Step 1 stretch the defense Step 2 get the ball near the limits of the field Step 3 profits After all they didn't have show much more (14 french player remember) but I don't think they're capable attacking quite like France or England do. They lack inspiration. (And one lucky ass try, but fair enough) !!! Warning a French is complaining about the ref down below !!! And my chauvinistic side comes back but man that ref was biased. Not only did Scottland started the fight with a great push in a French back by a scottish player, one scottish player even put his finger into Momo's eyes. Scottland should have played at 14 too. (and ofc not talking about the unsanctioned offsideS by scottish players) Result is a poor performance by France, but not a good performance by Scottland either. And a terrible perfomance by the referee.
@danielkinghorn6745
@danielkinghorn6745 4 жыл бұрын
As a Scot my take from that fight was French red card stays; Ficou gets a yellow for a blindside tackle as Ritchie is getting punched, Ritchie gets a yellow for his blindside tackle (I say no ritchie red for his punches as he was being choked into the ground. Self defence). I don't think the Scottish players hand in the eye in a card offence (I think it was Haining) as it looks to me like they both go to push each other, haining gets pushed first and his hand (already in pushing motion) gets lifted up into the French guys face. Maybe that's bias from me but it looked an accident.
@MrThuthur
@MrThuthur 4 жыл бұрын
I think Richie should get red he CLEARLY starts the fight, and gets away with it 😳. French reaction to this isn't great by any measure and haouas red card is completely normal, but Scott land should have a the very least get a yellow card. I don't think fickou should get a card punches are allready being thrown the fight has started a tackle isn't much.
@danielkinghorn6745
@danielkinghorn6745 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrThuthur Ritchie doesn't start the fight, there was already a massive group there. He should have got a yellow and nothing more. You are being biased. He didn't do anything that warrants a red by the laws of rugby

@danielkinghorn6745 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrThuthur You want Ritchie to get a red for a blindside tackle but then say Ficou shouldn't even get carded for the same? The French 13 also hooks Ritchie to the ground so should that not be a yellow? French did a lot more in this than any Scottish player
@MrThuthur
@MrThuthur 4 жыл бұрын
@@danielkinghorn6745 no Richie does start the fight there was one French player and one Scottish boy who where just pushing and shoving (not my words the ref said it) and then three Scottish player take a good 10 meter run and start the fight (and Ritchie tackles a French in the back) I'm not being biased there just look at the images
