It’s very hard to get a commission in the Navy. You have to have a STEM degree, preferably in engineering to have a chance of getting selected for OCS. The path to a commission is a little easier if you go enlisted first. Being a sailor who is self-starting, hard charging with leadership potential, who stays out of trouble, passes the PFA, etc. would carry a lot of weight in the selection process for OCS to where your college degree in a non-STEM field and a low GPA would get overlooked. You also have the option of going into the Limited Duty Officer (LDO) program if you want to stay in the same career field when you commission. You just have to be a first class on the selection board for the CPO exam and no more than 16 years in. That could take too long to do.

Great content keep grinding! You’re not alone I enlisted with a degree in mass comm from SSU I’m a current Operations Specialist. I didn’t want to wait a long time only to be denied so I went enlisted to get the ball rolling. I have plans to go Officer too someday

I don’t know if you’ll get to reply but I can totally relate to the end of this video. I’m taking the AF officer test in * *looks at watch* * 28 hours! I think I’m going to bomb it. I got a 81 on the ASVAB and can do any job in the AF enlisted. All of my family wants officer for me and I do too but it feels like it’s not really a choice right now/right time. I’ve taken two months to prepare and could use more time but just feel more peace enlisting. If I want to try and transfer to officer I can later with better understanding and military experience! I’ll keep you posted and might start my own journey as well! Keep the vids coming! I have a brother in the Navy and he is very grateful for his experience! He’s been in almost 10 years!

O’LEESA good luck on the test! From my understanding, you get paid even more money if you enlist first and then commission as oppose to going in as an officer from a civilian. So enlisting first definitely has that perk 👍🏾

PAO is one of the SMALLEST Officer Communities in the Navy. They only have one board per year and select like 20 people per year. It is also very competitive and they almost entirely choose AD Enlisted MCs.

I am still deciding if I want to go army or navy. I also have my bachelor as well and I feel like i want to go enlisted as well because as you said it's a long wait and also want to gain, learn about the military before I take that step. I will consider still going officer once I am in..... The army the highest you go in with a bachelor is an E-4 I am a little nervous lol but idk which one to go.. Good luck girly!

Zay Zso From what I understand the navy has the better medical program as a hospital corpsman. One thing my recruiter told me that sets the navy apart from other branches is that since it’s the navy all bases are stationed on the coast not far from a beach. And on deployments you hit multiple countries that are lovely. With other branches you can be stationed literally in the middle of no where and hate it. But I recommend meeting with both an army and navy recruiter and listing the pros and cons of joining each branches medical program!

I’m so glad I found your video! I just found out the rate I’ve been working towards has a predicted quota of zero for FY21; the year I was applying. 😭 It’s my dream to be in the navy so I want to look at options for how I can achieve this. Enlisting with a bachelors in public health may be the way? What do you think? (Anyone can give advice, it is much appreciated!)

Bekah Kirkish it all depends on if you want to wait or not. Personally I didn’t want to wait a whole year on a possibility because it was still likely that I wouldn’t have been accepted to go officer as a civilian. So I had to weigh the pros and cons.
