I’m 40 and live with my mom. I have a full time job but don’t make enough to live on my own in today’s economy. It has been just me and my mom since my parents divorced when I was 9. She is now at the age where her memory is starting to fail and she is having more accidents. So me living at home really benefits both of us.

I'm 34 and my sister is 28. We still live with our parents, and there's no shame in it. Live alone with an expensive rent in this economy? Not for me. We get along well compared with the majority of other families, so I don't see me moving any time soon.

I'm 33 and also still live with my Mum! 😊We're Asians though, so it has always been the norm for children to still live with their parents until they get married, even when they're adults. Most of my unmarried friends also still live with their parents. My Mum has just been on an accident too, so it's nice to be able to help her out.

I'm 28, and live at home. I just really enjoy living with my family. I like cooking for them and I can't take the dogs if I move out. People try to shame me and it sucks. I am saving up. My brother moved out when he was 30 years old and it's why he could afford to buy his house! So good for him.

I’m 29 and still live at home, it’s perfectly normal in Latin America. I’ve never felt weird about it. If I didn’t get along with my parents or had no privacy or wanted to leave, I would, but it’s never been something I feel like I need to do for other people to think I’m a grownup or serious person. It’s such a silly expectation in other cultures imo.

I'm 33, have owned and lost my own home and have rented, now back living with family where the mortgage is already paid, there's space for all my stuff and I pay a fraction of what I did before. I absolutely support anyone who stays home as long as they can and also in more cultures than not it is normal to always live with family! That sounds like a landlord that needs reporting to be honest, if nothing else that's a health hazard he's ignored! I love that you're already happier in your new home and I wish you all the best with your new place!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one here! anyway what. a. rollercoaster! I cannot believe the nerve of these people calling you ON THE DAY THAT YOU'RE MOVING if you have cats. And not your baby giving you the scare of a lifetime during your first morning coffee 😢 I did laugh when you mentioned he was stuck and didn't make a peep 😅

I lived with my parents until last year when I was 30 and only moved out finally because I had enough saved for a deposit for a mortgage which makes my flat way cheaper than a rented one and it's all mine! So worth doing and no shame in staying with family! I love my parents and had no issues living with them but they wanted to move and downsize and I wanted my own place near my work. Now I have a cute little home with a cat and I'm very happy :) this is a joy to watch and I love your cats so much! Hi Gavin! My parents paid my rent until I moved with my partner at 28, it is just the way life is. With what I earned I couldn’t support myself, I lived in a not so safe area, but it was near work and it was the cheapest I could find. So ignore people who say mean things. XOXO

I moved out of my Mom's house and into an apartment in my grandmother's house when l was 17. That way, l could have my own space, but be close enough to help out my grandma when she needed it. In 2020, when l was 29, l moved out fully on my own. I have been on my own since. Athough, now that l have a good job, the plan has always been for my Momma to move in with me once she retires. There should be no shame in living with your parents! Family is meant to support each other!

You should always go through the real estate for repairs and stuff, and email it to them, that way it’s in writing and there’s a record so that if the landlord ignores you or tries to pretend you never told them, you can show your emails

When I was in college I moved in with my grandmother and been living with her since and I'm 34. There is no shame in it. Having another person in the house eased my relatives mind, and especially currently now she is in need of a caregiver. Moving story though - back in August my parents and brother were moving from an apartment to a new house, my mother diligently packed as much as she could, and day of the move my brother went there with one of the dogs to help unpack the boxes from the trucks while I stayed behind with another dog at the apartment and help with any last minute packing. Come to find out my brother barely packed ANYTHING up in his room so I was scrambling to help pack up the 80% of what he left unpacked since we had to be out by the end of the day. We managed but oh boy wasn't everyone pissed by that situation on top of the general moving stress.

I'm 30 and still live with my parents despite also being engaged to my partner of 10 years. I'm mostly staying to help my parents with their bills (because they have been struggling and are close to finally paying off their mortgage). Aside from helping, it also allows me to save up to hopefully afford a down-payment for a place with my fiancé. No shame in having to live with family to make ends meet!

I feel you on the family drama with moving. I had to BEG my brother and father to help me move last time I changed apartments, and they did nothing but yell at me & made it seem like I owed them the world because they finally bothered to lift a finger to help me. Mind you, I did ALL the smaller stuff by myself- it was only the larger furniture I needed their help on. Never again. No matter how much it costs, I am absolutely hiring movers next time instead of trying to rely on my family.

Congrats on moving (pretty) successfully! My biggest moving nightmare was in 2021. I live in Japan at the moment, and I was moving from Shizuoka Prefecture to Yokohama City, leaving one teaching company for another because my original company was taking SO LONG to place me even knowing I wouldn't be able to stay because I had to drive to the schools there, and my license was expiring in March. Long story short, I had a literal 2 weeks to find an apartment, go through the application process and be approved, pack, and officially move, because I had to get out of my other apartment by a certain date. And it was prime moving season, so finding a moving company who wasn't booked at that time was a nightmare.

Ugh I had a similar moving experience. I knew I wanted out of my last home almost immediately, but ended up staying there for 5 years (mostly because my rent never went up during the pandemic lol). I moved this Feburary and I was convinced my new landlord had ghosted me because I got my keys 2 days late. It was still a day before my lease officially started so it was fine, but stressful. I was convinced I got scammed. I hope you love your new house! The wallpaper in the living room is so pretty! I can't wait to see how cozy you make it!!

Love the new place Gav.. Where the garden is concerned..cats just jump up onto the fences no problem at all.. I've had cats and 6ft fences are no problem to fit cats.. Once they start exploring they will start to go further afield but usually come and go once they have lived there for a while.. Maybe you should take them out in the garden with cat leashes if you don't want them going further..but I reckon once they get used to it they will start to go further. They are already interested in the garden sitting at the window.. Good luck in your new home..✨✨❤❤

11pm the night before I was supposed to move I got an email saying “actually the apartment is not currently habitable, so you can’t move in”. Everything had already been packed up in a U-Haul ready to go. The next day they said “well you can move all your stuff in, but you can’t stay yet” “if you want to do that you will have a 2 hour time slot to move in everything you own”. Also, it was July 1st which is Canada Day, so no moving companies were open and there was crazy traffic. By the end my boyfriend and I had to live in my childhood bedroom for a week without the majority of our things. Then getting internet hooked up was a whole other issue lol.

One could tell every time you looked out the roof window how much you liked that view - and it looked a bit magical - but other than that it was clearly time to get a new place. 😊 And I hear you about letting family help with a move, I said the same to myself the last time I moved thirteen years ago; next time I'm hiring professional movers!

It's too late now, but a great tip for clearing out your closest (whether moving or just purging) is having something handy to make a list. - well not too late, if you're still unpacking your stuff, you can see what you have & want you need to get. Getting rid of your Marilyn Monroe dress, but potentially want to replace it? Write that down! Throwing out all the holey underwear & holey/single socks? Add those to the list of things you need to buy. Finding out you don't fit in 8 out of 10 t-shirts? Jot down that you want to get 3-5 more shirts. Or you have 15 T-shirts but only 1 long sleeve & 3 sweaters? Make a note that you need more cold-weather outfits.

It's lovely seeing you happy in your new home, I'm looking forward to seeing how you decorate and style everything! You should hit a few charity shops to pick up a few bits and bobs. So, here's wishing you the very best, and lots of happiness in your new home. 💕🏡🪴

I almost chocked laughing at your story about your dad storming off and when Tobu went missing, so glad it all worked out okay in the end

Nooo! You totally haven’t been just complaining but GAH, you COULD. That’s so stressful, and having been through something similar (moving dates move last minute and a gap between apartments) TALKING does help. Glad it got better, but still that’s a lot and so unnerving

The moving twice situation is currently happening to me 😂 they moved the date two weeks back (maybe more😂), so I've done the first move into my partners flat, it's too small for our stuff so there is stuff absolutely EVERYWHERE 😂😂 my cat is at my mums so she's somewhere familiar for now 😔 🐈 Congratulations on the move! 🎉❤🎉❤

I'm so happy for you to be in a new place that you actually like! Looking forward to seeing how cozy it becomes as you unpack and settle in! As for the living with parents discussion, my two sisters and I are all in our 30s and we still live together with our mom. I don't have any shame in it and I much prefer living with family I like than running the risk of moving in with roommates I don't know or struggling to keep up in a place on my own. I honestly think that anyone shaming things like living situations need to get better hobbies because it's not like it has anything to do with them.

Congrats on the new place! it looks so nice! I had to share this story with you. I ordered a desk for my room a year or two ago. When the box arrived there was a huge hole in the box that transferred to the desk. It looked like someone had a bad day and punched it. The desk had a hole in it the size of a walnut in it. I was so upset.

Hi! I’m a big fan of booktube and I’ve heard about you a lot but I’m new to your channel. I just wanted to say it made me so happy to watch you leaving a not so great environment and a home that the landlord wasn’t taking care of. I hope your new home is everything you and your babies want! Also it’s so bonkers they were asking about pets on move in day and having you pay before that was confirmed. 😮
