I have beaten this game a couple times, to unlock the alternate endings and beat the true final boss. But that was also when I realized, that while seeing how fast I could beat the game, speedrunning it also completely sucked the joy of it out for me, as a HUGE part of why I love these games, is the lore that you get from reading notes and journals... skip those and you are left with only half a game, a ghost of its former self.

You're right about the game being vague as hell. I put video's together in october to "Explain" the stories in these games. The amount of character connections over the generations, the reason why the girls end up in the village, the curse, all the damn terminology, the guy with the bad voice acting who's locked in that house.... Dear god. Just making sure I got it all right is a fucking nightmare. That said.. I love the hell out of the first 3. My favorite survival horror series of all time. Nice parasite eve music too btw!

This game is without a doubt the scariest game I've ever played. No other game forced me to stop playing and put it away for _two years_ before finally finishing it. It's just a game, but the tension of having to face who you face at the end of the game was insurmountable. The game built him up to an insane degree - able to kill with one touch and invincible... and once you fight him, he takes next to no damage with regular film, even with Zero shots and fatal frames... _and_ he regenerates his health... the tension when facing him at the end of a playthrough is astronomical. This game earned my respect by etching itself into my soul and will thus forever be in my top 10.

This is one of the two games I really wanted to play (because cool survival horror) and NOT want to play (because Japanese ghosts actually disturb me) at the same time. Other being Siren. Also I'm really curious as to the differences in both the versions

I played back in the day on my PS2. It was called Project Zero 2 here, and it was one of the scariest games I've ever played. I've also played the Wii edition recently. It SUCKS! The controls where horrible, the absence of a fixed camera removed much of the atmosphere, the grab mini-game fir picking every item was annoying and the new mature models for the sisters where more clishe.
@drakenfist4 жыл бұрын
cannot agree more!. The WII version is a very poor imitation of itself. Nitro Rads review of the game sums up my thoughts very well. He talks about how cool and scary the fixed camera angles are in the original. Taking them out and adding the behind the sholder sucks out all the tension. Not only that but because it is behind the sholder, most of the jump scares are now cutscenes so that they make sure that you saw them, whereas in the original, there is A LOT of surprise ghost scares that are in the corner of your eye. I agree with the sisters thing too. not that they are cliche but their look. there was something off until I heard what Nitro Rad had to say. He said that they are supposed to be teenagers and making them look more like adults destroys the narrative a bit.

I don't play horror games. The closest a game that scared me was Okami where those ghosts appearing in your face in the ghost ship. But this is one of the more actually genuinely scary ones. Like 'I ain't goin' down that hallway' scary. The menu sounds are savage. Also I'm down with a game about taking pictures of angry ghost cats.

Uinseann Ayflahm Oh yeah, the Silent Hill protags were pretty stylish, Heather in particular. James wore a nice jacket, too. Silent Hill 2 doesnt seem all that scary anymore but more melancholic which I appreciate. I dig the soundtrack.
I got scared playing MGS5 too haha. That game has such a weird "eeriness" about it that's hard to pin down. Might be worth a video some day. Surprisingly though, I feel the same. I played this game at night mostly and definitely spent a few times looking away from the screen anticipating a jump scare, and SH3 was crippling at times when I first played it. It's why you don't see me reviewing horror games all the time, and even then, I tend to go for the sillier less scary ones. I doubt I'd play as many horror games as I do, if it wasn't for me wanting to talk about them here.

Nice video! two or three weeks ago i started this game, but i'm not sure if i should keep on this remake version or play the original at ps2, not sure which one is better. The ps2 version apeals to me in the camera style, something like the old resident evils etc, and very unfortunately there are no new games using this kind of camera style, so maybe i should just enjoy the original, buuuut the remake looks and feels very interesting like you just said haha a brief dilemma.

Really enjoying this so far. I’ve played a lot of the Xbox version since around 2011, and this is better in every way. Wasn’t too big a fan of the new voice dub, I preferred the younger sounding twins from the original, but the new dub has begun to grow on me. But didn’t the motion controls with the camera bother you at all? I find them SO frustrating, they react so slow. And dodging a ghost’s attack will often mistake for a quick turn, which is very annoying. But other than that, a great game. The atmosphere is better here, imo.

That bridge encounter with the broken neck woman and several others gave me goose pimples and shivers. and you basically said in the review that the only thing that makes this game difficult to play is that it's scary :).
