I actually went and mastered fighting in this game and found it hella fun, the main point that can be seen as a problemby people that try the game out without realizing how it works is that it uses the dualshock 2 sensors for button press strenght. press lightly and you do a quick attack, press strong and do a slower, heavier attack. so it becomes crucial to never get too frustrated and actually control yourself, otherwise you will get your ass kicked.

The multiplayer in this game was the most shart your pants laughing fun I had on the ps2. The unlockable boss characters have all their insane animations from single player with 0 balance changes for being a balanced fighter. 11/10

This game could've been good, but there are a number of gameplay elements that directly get in the way of having fun. My two biggest problems with this game are: 1. The fact that you don't get jack from killing enemies unless you personally land the killing blow, and 2. They give you points to buy all these cool fighting moves, but then punish you for it by making the game insanely hard it you buy all of them. Like, come on. It's almost like the devs specifically didn't want you to have fun playing their game.

I unashamedly love this game for it's aesthetics and cyberpunk theme. It was my first PS2 game that wasn't a demo disc and I must have poured 50 hours into it for that 100%. It's a shame emulators still suck doing analog face buttons or I'd replay it for muh nostalgia, admittedly this game /is/ molasses without being able to do quick attacks and I think some techs are even unusable without them.

The problem is most people played the PAL version of this game. Grew up playing the heck out of the NTSC version because 11 year old me was expecting something special when I play through and S rank all of the characters, not realizing the game is only 30 minutes long.

Man, back in the day when I was a little bugger, I remember when I witnessed the tech demo for this game, before the PS2 launch, I was amazed by the game's graphics. I didn't know the animations can be so smooth. Then I played the fucking thing. And I disliked it. Don't get me wrong, I love beat 'em ups. Streets of Rage is the TITS and Final Fight 3 kicks fucking ass, but The Bouncer fails on that aspect for having sluggish, slow and janky controls. The other problem I had was it felt like the game was running at 30 fps. If the game was faster I might have endured it a bit lot more despite the awkward controls but as it stands it gives a sour taste in my mouth. And story in beat 'em ups does not fucking matter, especially when it comes to cringe inducing ones like The Bouncer's main plot. The story needs to be quick, slick and upfront. Not this teeny bopper drama bullshit that leads to pacing issues...and a certified cringe. And the overly extreme character designs are just....ugh. But I have to say judging it as one of the early PS2 games the game visually still looks pretty good and it holds up better than I thought. I also remember I couldn't distinguish the CGI cutscenes from the in-game visuals. And the ragdoll physics in an early PS2 game are nice. Ergo it's a pretty shitty beat 'em up with a god-awful story and pretty visuals.

I loved this game believe it or not. I rented it and the next door neighbor that was a few years older than me, my lil bro and myself all played it together taking turns and beat it. At the beginning we all picked a character and stuck with it all the way through. The neighbor played as Volt, my brother used Kou and I used Sion. It kind of sucked passing the controller so often because of the short ass levels, but it also made it more exciting when it was your turn again. I bought the game and replayed it as an adult and still enjoyed it. Even played through it a couple times trying to get my characters rank maxed. Looking bad now I wish there would have been much longer levels with way more enemies. As well as 3 player coop and and a different xp gaining system opposed to a single character gaining xp from the last hit only. Maybe xp given according to how high of a combo you can reach or even how much damage you do to an enemy. All 3 characters need to gain xp if they damage an enemy as well. I wish they'd cut the tech demo bs out and give this game a real shot at a sequel. Just take the basic premise - a 3d beat em up with some rpg elements and perfect it. Make the fighting system a bit more fluid and rewarding. With some added depth so that people that put in the time can display their mastery of the fighting system. As well as making the method for xp gain a little more balanced between the squad. Make levels last a lot longer with more emphasis on level design opposed to cut scenes. Maybe even add in hidden items and xp boosts to reward players for exploring the levels. They could have unlockable gear and costumes as well. Then add in 3 player coop and you'd have something definitely worth playing. Cause this game as is - even with all its flaws and shortcomings, really can provide a fun and unique experience. Primarily because of the the rpg like progression with the stat boosts. That, coupled with a fighting system that really isn't all that bad makes for a game that is still one of my favorite PS2 games of all time. It could have been so much more, but what we got was still a memorable and unique experience. If only - 😞. After all - Dark Cloud ended up getting a sequel. So why not The Bouncer as well? 🤷♂️ ✌️ out!

OMG, this actually made me laugh out loud especially Kaldea's random English accent. If she had spoken like that the game would have been so much better. I refuse to believe that a sober person wrote the script for this game, but oh the memories. I loved this game for it's awesomely bad badness and it's equally bad storyline. Those druken chimps writers really outdid themselves. My sister and I used to rip this game to shreds. Our nickname for Dominique was can opener coochie. We also talked shit about the hospital that apparently only had one doctor and one nurse in a city that had no ambulances, cabs, or any other means of mass transit. Let us not forget the Seifer Almasy reject that turned the Rinoa Heartilly reject into a biotronic panther so that he could turn his sister, a Rikku reject, into battle bot with apocalyptic attachments. What a game! What. A. Game.

So like.......I actually dig the character designs in this game? But I'm a sucker for most of Tetsuya Nomura's character designs in general LOL. I remember seeing this game in-stores several times, and damn-near buying it on the spot just because of the cover art. I think the only thing that stopped me was just not knowing anything about the game.............later I'd heard it was pretty bad, but I never really took those comments seriously until I saw this review. I think I'll pick it up eventually just to have the cover art and manual, LOL. I'm not sure if I'd actually enjoy playing this kind of game though.....I can only tolerate so much 'broken' in a game after all. I'm definitely interested in the cut-scenes tho; so I'll probably check out a let's-play of it at some point.

It's very easy you can just spam triangle or square and win. I just beat the game a few minutes ago it's worth getting for those aspects you like as it's so cheap and who knows maybe you'll have a some fun with the 45 minutes of gameplay. It's got a Japanese voice option too if you like that.

Honestly, I think if they re made this game with a modern engine, it’d be fun as hell. Better combos, better fluidity, more characters, you and a buddy doing combos on a random mob/boss and playing off each other. Imagine ragdolling someone back and forth while doing sick combo’s! It could be pretty great! If it wasn’t for the fact Square sucks ass now and that’ll never happen because they lost every creative bone in there body and are just a shell of there former self. Ran by people who don’t give a fuck anymore about creating something great or unique, let alone memorable. But instead what fits the profit margins and what brings in the most money, and now for worse, with least amount of effort. Fuck Square man
