What I love about your critical reviews on games is how you're three-dimensional. Even in controversial games like Battlefront II, you manage to show a level of praise in certain aspects of the game, give your critiques of it's flaws, and even go in-depth analysis on the cause of the game's said flaws. The best part is how you do this all together with a smooth, coherent narration, and a subtle sense of humor.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

the match that'll never start thing is *usually* just a glitch. It's when the game forces you onto one server that isn't yours, (for example putting me, an American on the South African servers), and it's called the ping glitch. They were supposed to fix it last patch, but they couldn't get rid of it completely so they're supposed to fix it in the upcoming squad system patch in 4 days.

I appreciate an argument against this game that isn’t just “hurdahur loot boxes suck, Hurhur the original battlefront is better.” and you actually acknowledge that the loot boxes are gone and you focus on the gameplay itself. If I can make one recommendation give the new conquest style mode a try when it arrives. I think the one thing you wanted from the game will come with that.

I was hoping that we could actually get an Imperial protagonist for once. Not one that switches sides either. I'm genuinely curious what the guy under the helmet in the end was thinking. There's a cut scene in RotJ that I actually wish was kept where an Imperial officer is ordered to fire the death star at Endor. The officer actually visibly has an inner conflict about it because there are still Imperial troops on Endor. I think Star Wars could feasibly humanize the Empire while still keeping them the bad guys. Most Stormtroopers are not crazy old men with lightning hands. Of course this idea is thrown out the window by both the prequel AND the sequel trilogy as with the exception of one guy none of the bad guys are even CAPABLE of thinking for themselves.

Like usual a well thought out and eloquent in depth analysis of a video game that is spot on and indisputable. Battlefront 2 is at its core a great game. But as you stated if you dump a reasonable amount of time into the game its major faults become clear. One thing that could have been added was the appaling support for the game and live service failure. That is also of major importance to be discussed, especially with Battlefield V on the horizon where the exact same [empty] promises are being thrown towards gamers/the community that echo of the pre launch Battlefront 2 scene.

And I frakin' loved it every minute of it up UNTIL the last mission! I love DL and The Following had me the whole damn way! I called in to work TWICE in order to finish it! And I was rewarded with an ending that totally INVALIDATED >everything< I did in both the original and the expansion. Whoever it was that wrote that ending and whoever approved it should be ashamed. ASHAMED! It's like they put out the best story they possibly could but then didn't know how to end it. So, they told the story to their eight year old kid and asked them how it should end...

The AI on arcade sucks too, Battlefront II (2005) seems to be famous for it's multiplayer but honestly I went hours on offline mode, since your team's AI sucked you would get these one man army moments where ur tense as hell slowly gunning down the enemy army. The AI in Battlefront II (2005) utilised everything they had, they dodge rolled, sprinted, threw grenades, did most everything the player could, Battlefront II (2017)'s AI do 1 of those listed things. All they did for BFII2017 to make them seem like a better challenge than 2005's was make the AI aim better, they just walk around, never sprint, very occasionally do this dodge thing the player can't do, and sometimes throw a grenade. They never use vanguard or infiltration, and when using sentry as heavy, the player gets a unique animation that slows their walking speed, is distinct so you know it's activated and looks pretty cool tbh, THE AI ON THE OTHER HAND walk normally like they're holding a standard gun and instantly kill you because you didn't realise they were holding the explosive sentry because the animation doesn't appear for the AI.

Now battlefront II does have tactics you just need to know how to use them like there is this one spot on Yavin 4 on the first phase where no one looks at and you can get 20 kill streaks with normal troopers while helping your team through keeping the enemies from pushing the center turbolaser

I love the class system being brought back and the Star Cards in their current form I have no issues with as to me using a gun to unlock attachments for that gun is how I would do it. Can't defend the campaign though. As someone else has said, they didn't need to tie is to the Sequel Trilogy at all. The fighting goes on for a good year after DS2s destruction so even if you kept the defection 'twist' it could have been a late/end game thing after constant moral objections to the year post RotJ

EA should make its next project a remaster of BF2 ‘05. With the insane graphics and epic canon story mode and 1000 little improvement that could be made in 15 years (2020 release date 🙏).

Hunt the Truth. Wow. That brings back painful memories of when we thought 343 weren't sellouts and a shitty developer.

Star wars battlefront is an AWESOME and AMAZING game. It ea and dice that ruin it. For everyone who doesn't know, they didn't give us anything in 9 months full of promised content. We only got 1 small map and a few shitty skins and that's all (and the irony is that a modder literally makes more skins than the devs (one modder even made a whole new gamemode himself)). This game has soooo much potential. They said that the devs of battlefield 5 will start working on battlefront these days and will try to make it good again...let's hope so...but from what happened before, I don't expect much, I'm 15% positive

Part of me is glad you didn't spend much time beyond a few passing comments about the lootbox gambling system, as it has been done to death. The other part of me thinks that it's so asinine and disrespectful it deserves to be shunned at every opportunity. That being said, very reasonable and objective review. Thanks

one of the things I dislike the most about battlefront 2 is the lack of music from the movies

The fact that you have to put a year next to the title means the title has failed at its job. Great going EA.

As a total Star Wars fan, I loved some of the detail put into the maps but then when I realized a lot of that detail was just window dressing. It's like, they really had the chance to go all out but they just didn't and that's the part that I think is the most depressing for me. There's so much cool stuff in Star Wars, some of which is actually in the game in some form, but if they don't do anything with it what's the point?

Well, I am curious to hear your opinion on the TITANFALL 2 campaign - I played it with the expection of just playing a COD mediocre campaign, but was really suprised of the games narrative and events.

Games been great since they fixed the progression and star cards. I still hope in here and there for Strike (best mode) and Star Fighter Assault.

I don’t understand what is wrong with the Iden defecting, or any story where a character who is on the “bad guy’s side” switches to the “good guy side”. Like, your reverse scenario could work if the situation was set up, just like how Iden’s situation was set up. There’s context, that being her home, Vardos, which was a planet loyal to the Empire, was being destroyed by the Empire, on the orders of a deadman, for seemingly no reason. Operation: Cinder, which this game did not establish, was basically evidence that Palpatine didn’t care about law, order, or peace as he preached. Couple that with the fact that Del was learning that the Jedi aren’t so bad and that Palpatine had some weird secrets and it makes complete sense for the two to defect. Like, both these characters believed in the stated ideal of the Empire, but they aren’t so blindly loyal to the Empire or selfishly trying to get as much power or glory that they can’t see that the Empire didn’t stand for their stated ideal.

I agree with EVERYTHING in this. I’ve left Battlefront 2 for Fortnite and I wish that this game would be like the original ones. :(
