Well, it looks and plays like minecraft because it literally is minecraft java edition running in the browser using a software called TeaVM which turns java into javascript.

My friend used this for awhile before he got the free modern version. I also remember him loading this up during technology when we had free time once. Also its made by a different person but there are also some ports for earlier versions of Minecraft such as beta 1.7.3 and indev for web browser.
