And it wasn’t like they weren’t making noise until it was cancelled. Everyone LOVED the show and were talking about it constantly. Netflix just seems to be making the worst decisions ever lately. 🤦‍♀️

Just FYI, they sang live in the show. If you download and listen to the recorded versions, the songs sound different. They are singing and playing live in each episode. I have noticed some parts where things don’t sync perfectly but I suppose they do multiple takes of a performance and the editors cut them together.

they sang live but along to a recording that likely wasn't the finished soundtrack - singing live on tv never comes out as clear as it does in the show - there's a few bits and pieces where they probs did several takes and maybe sang without the backing track but most of the time when you hear myths abt things being sung live in shows is usually only half true - they sung live and i believe played their instruments on set for most of the songs (along to a backing track) bc it looks better than lip syncing along to the track.

So obsessed I finished season 1 in a single day, this show had me in tears, and watched it multiple times. I was so excited for a season 2, literally counting the days. i remember when my sister started singing these songs and i just thought "oh here we go, another mediocre disney show" but then i watched it (as a 18 year old at the time) ....BANGER, the songs were so catchy, the story was intriguing, the chemistry between all the actors was electric, the acting (especially Charlie/Luke's) was INCREDIBLE. It was just such a nice show to watch, especially when we were in the middle of the pandemic. It literally had no promotion, but still made a mark. The audience loved it, the critics loved it, it literally won AN EMMY, but Netflix cancelled this, but decided to renew/make Tall Girl 2, Emily in Paris, Princess Switch 3. This was when I stopped getting invested in Netflix shows and also ironically when Netflix REALLY started losing subscribers for the first time ever. The biggest mistake they ever made😭 i will never not be angry🤦🏽‍♀

This show is full of easter eggs. A great reunion show would be to trace all of them. The missing person poster behind Luke's head as they eat the hotdogs. Rose is obviously Julie's Mom as she is wearing the vest when she meets the guys in episode one and Julie wears the vest for her performance in episode 6. And the concert tickets for Rose and the Petal Pushers on the lid of Julie's Moms chest. And the Dalias, Rose's favorite flower, throughout the series. Including a vase full at Luke's parents home as he tearfully visits them. The fact that Flynn wears a lock on a necklace and Willie wears a necklace with a key. When Luke and the boys are in Julie's room and Luke is mysteriously drawn to her "dream box." And on and on and on. A great show. Deserved a season 2.

My best guess is that they cancelled it due to the difference in age of the actors! During the time the actress who played Julie was 16 (15 during filming), and the actor who played Luke was 22 (21 while filming)! That was the only thing I could think of as to why they would cancel because the songs, the plot, and the writing was good!

I loved these show when i watched on pandemic, specially since it was inspired by the brazilian show with the same plot (Julie e os fantasmas = "Julie and the ghosts", the translation would be) and i usually dont see a a brazilian show inspire a us tv show instead of the other way, and as a brazilian this version was really good, i love both of them and they hold a special place in my heart, a shame neither of them got a second season 😭😭😭
