i personally believe part of this movie was based on elliot rodgers - an actual serial killer dubbed the "incel killer", esp the last few parts with reddit and 4chan praising kurt. it's what makes it feel so real

I think the reference is clear by the start with that 'apology video' they show, the set up is rlly similar to one of Elliot's vids, although I think 'mass murderer' is more of a accurate description for his case. And the whole reddit/4ch*n montage only confirmed it. All in all I just find both the movie and the irl story depressing, Spree has a very interesting format and Joe did an amazing job, but bcs of it's realism and portrayal of character, instead of being scared it just made me sad

my favorite part of this movie is how absolutely lame kurt is the whole time LOL the director and joe keery have made it very clear that kurt was meant to start and stay pathetic throughout the entire movie which i love. also! apparently to prepare for the role joe was given like cringe compilations of people who were trying to make it big online and used that as inspiration which i LOVE that’s so funny to me. This movie gave me Joker or Taxi Driver vibes. A very naive person whose world view was skewed by anger the more they experienced rejection or tragedy. Especially as Kurt’s feeling of worth was based entirely on the views and followers and he was getting none. Joe Keery did such a great job portraying the character’s forced happiness/cheeriness and allowing his anger to seep through every once in a while when he couldn’t hold the facade up. I thought it was great, but incredibly sad.

Omg I'm literally in love with Joe Keery and his character Steve sealed the deal for me, but like... when I got to watching this, I just couldn't look at Joe or Steve the same way ever again (he's still my favorite on ST though alongside Joyce), but that's what makes me appreciate Joe even more as an actor because of his range. He's still one of the best people I've looked up to, and I don't know if you're interested, but... if you are (definitely assuming you are because I see how much he has been growing on you lately and because I know you react to not only shows and movies, but also music!) would you be interested in reacting to his music?
