Thank you for posting this today, awesome!! As for the live version, I’d definitely say the MTV awards, that year, is a must. Fun facts: Madonna had planned keeping her hair Brunette after like A prayer, but Warren Beatty had cast her as Breathless Mahoney and insisted she go blonde. Plus, this video at the time was the most expensive video ever made at $5million, which Madonna paid out of pocket to be sure her vision came to life and was modeled after the old Hollywood movie: Metropolis. Since this came after the Pepsi fiasco, where she got to keep the $5mill, I’d imagine that is what funded this stunning video, which visually still holds up today.

Ty for this review. Well done ladies. One of my favourite Madonna videos. Though, the videos released from this album are all incredible. Can’t wait for Cherish and especially Oh Father… which is utterly brilliant. This was Madonna’s incredible song of female empowerment. I do recall the fever over her androgyny at this point. I can’t believe people were freaking out that she was dressed like a man… 😆 My sister, was married this year, and I dressed my mother for the wedding. I put her in a double breasted suit, with a camisole top underneath; inspired by this video. She looked wonderful. There is really only one live performance to view for this outside of concert tours. I will request the live performance from the MTV video awards, 1989. The best performance of this is absolutely from the Blonde Ambition Tour, but once again, I hope you reserve that viewing for the review of the concert. She’s so artistic. The industrial set is an homage to “Metropolis “ a film from the 1920’s. This video cost at the time was the highest to date and it shows in production value.

This video is an iconic piece of art, like a minimovie directed by David Fincher in homage to Metropolis. One of my favourite videos and songs of Madonna. The message in the song is also so powerful and useful. I'm glad to see and enjoy your reactions, knowing all your thoughts and interpretations of every song of Madonna. The story goes that Madonna wrote this song for her friend Jennifer Grey who had just broken up with her boyfriend, Matthew Broderick. This song also became an anthem for so many of her fans.

trivia tidbit .. the bird she’s on in the beginning is the legendary Phoenix .. which symbolizes rebirth. this song of empowerment was so powerful then .. and so relevant to this day ♥️

Love your reaction. As for the live version, I would suggest as others, 1989 MTV AWARDS Live version. She's done it multiple times on tour throughout the years, and the Blond Ambition version is quite iconic, but I suspect you'll be reacting to that whole show very soon. Also, the VMA's version is separate from any tour and it's the first time she ever performed the song. She performed this song live before ever performing Like A Prayer believe it or not.
