So Long Kaufmann's Department Store: 1887-2015

When I was in college and just after, visiting that downtown Kauffman's was great. You'd walk in that Smithfield Street entrance into a land of fragrances and jewelry. I'd take the escalators all the way up to the 9th floor to check out B. Dalton Booksellers. My eye doctor for a while was at the Lenscrafters or Eyelab or whatever it was at the time as well. Then I'd go back down, check out the men's clothing on 2. When the basement was still open, that was where a fresh outta college grad could actually afford to shop and where I bought most things. I remember buying my coffee maker at that store. I believe that was the 7th floor. It was an exciting place in 1989-90.

Yeah sometimes I wish we could travel back in time; maybe go back to the days when this place was STILL Kaufmann's.
