I don't know which is more beautiful, the boats themselves, or the wonderful symphony they produce. Love old wood boats!

I am a kid of the sixties and when fiberglass boats hit the market no one wanted an old wooden boat. I turned down an 18' Garwood priced at $600. It's wonderful that they are now so treasured.

Growing up in the 40 and 50 these were about all you could fiberglass was just coming along. Got to see the engine in one was a flathead Ford. 3 carbs aluminum heads and cam. It had a serious rumble and then he hit it! Oh wow

@@michaelhrivnak1719While the P51 is a favorite of mine. A big round engine really grabs my attention.
@thnksno10 ай бұрын
@michaelhrivnak1719 They just have such a unique sound. So does the P51, but that's more of a whine than a chug like a radial. There have also been a lot more radial engines used in various airplanes than 12 cylinder Packard Merlins. Some radial engines had as many as 28 cylinders. They have an almost diesel locomotive like sound.

The Baby Gar with the bow thruster was a let down, doubt that was an option back then. The SuperSport at 6:19 was sweet.

The last boat in the video also has a bow thruster. I understand the convince of that on such a long boat, but not sure how I feel about it on a classic!

Crazy enough, Gar Wood Custom Boats still exists in NY state. I believe the one with the bow thruster is modern. Still made as if it were the 1920s, but with a modern engine, rigging, and of course a bow thruster. www.garwoodcustomboats.com/baby-gar.html

According to Americans there isnt a fuel shortage going by all the old muscle car restorations as well. Why would you want to restore some of these fuel guzzlers with the current fuel shortage and prices. I know these probably don't run often and it is nice to see them.

Didn't they use these boats in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?
@bmpvideo602510 ай бұрын
Very similar, yes. They could have used old or custom-made Chris Craft "barrel backs," the boats in Last Crusade would be styled more in the class of Italian-made "Venice taxis;" presumably the Riva Rivarama (though they wouldn't destroy one for the film as this is a very gorgeous & expensive boat; all Rivas are. Think Ferrari mixed with Rolls Royce). Internet opinions vary, the boats could have been Chris Crafts or Hacker Crafts, and modified to be destroyed, lengthened for easier filming while being chopped by the ship's propeller, and perhaps styled to look more Italian and less American, with no identifying marks, different hardware, more Italian looking windshields, etc. etc.
