@zzp1Ай бұрын
@@andriesscheper2022 Eerlijk gezegd bedoelde ik zeegaande schepen. Maar natuurlijk heb je gelijk.

I followed this wonderful video and understood clearly each move while not understanding a word of the language. The careful camera work was excellent to show the craftsmanship of all those involved over a long time. I was a daysailer for years and this put me there with them. Thank you.

Thank you for posting, my Dutch very elementary , and unspoken for nearly sixty years , however pictures speak a thousand words and I was fascinated to watch how these old fishing boats were used and maintained. Just sorry it has taken so long to find this post.

Dutch socialism has been over for 20 years. Then after Mark Rutte's liberalist medicine the Dutch do not even know the meaning of the word . Liberalism won, the Dutch lost.

Amazing boat cared for by an amazing crew. What is that side panel removed and replaced at 7:17? Smugglers hiding place? Ha! I got it. It’s a live hold for fish. 9:26 Too bad that dinghy wasn’t highlighted. Looks very unique.

Prachtig schip! Kom je met dikke wind aan op Helgoland, best trots op jezelf op een oceaanwaardig jacht. Ligt daar ineens een botter met een paar doodkalme baasjes. 'We gaan nog even door naar Denemarken'. Was hun onderkoelde commentaar. Bijzonder schip, bijzondere mensen.

What is in the preserving pot that the ropes and sails are soaked in Thankyou
@DirkLontАй бұрын
Tan is the preserve from cotton fishnet, sail or rope with cashew to prevent rot by Fungi and bacteria counteract. Tanning was done in a taan kettle. For several hours, the fishing net, sail or rope was immersed in a hot solution of cashew. Cashew is an extract from various trees, including that of oak, quebracho and Bethel palm and gives a Brown color to the treated material. Tanning in the Netherlands was mainly done with tannin which was extracted from the bark of the birch or oak. The birch had a low yield of barely 25% extractable tannin, the Eek from Pedunculate oaks yielded more. The acacia tree in India had a much higher yield, about 75% of the tannin present is recoverable. The Dutch East India Company brought it to the Netherlands. The tannins from ground bark were dissolved in hot water in a cauldron, after which tanning could begin. Each fishing village had at least one farm, larger fishing villages had two or more, smaller, farms. Usually these farms were owned by the fishermen, who had their nets hauled up and tanned, especially at the end of the week, on Saturday afternoons. After the check, the nets were ready for use again and the nets were cleaned of all the fish residues that had been left behind. In the harbors it was a colorful sight: all the ships that had hung the nets to dry. Taan has a natural brown color, but some fishing villages wanted to distinguish themselves by giving the sails a red color. The tanning of cotton sails disappeared when the fishing boats started motoring. Ships that were still sailing were fitted with sails made of plastic that did not require a taan. Ships of the brown fleet are sometimes rigged with cotton sails, so there is still work for the tand mill. In addition to fishing nets, sailcloth and ropes, the sailcloth used for the windmill sails were also treated with taan.
