I love your reaction to the climax of "So Many Birthdays". That's exactly it, it's a masterful mixture of humor and genuine fear/sadness. When I first watched this show, this episode impressed me by being able to pull off that combination so well. That's hard for any show to do, much less a children's cartoon. It was one of the first things that really made me think this show could be something special.

When Garnet shakes Steven, I never realized people thought Garnet was being funny because she thought violence might be the anwser. I thought it was actually sad tho, cause you see her crying right before Steven tells them to control themselves.
@audos_8306 Жыл бұрын
The fact that Garnet was so upset and didn't know what to do that she had resorted to violence and CRYING. To me, this was a glimpse past her 'cool' and 'nonchalant' attitude.

Forget Frybo and Cat Fingers, So Many Birthdays is the real Steven Universe episode that terrified me as a kid and that still traumatizes me to this day, like seriously, when he got scared with tears on his eyes about all of teeth falling when he’s old, I felt him right there, I’m also scared of losing all my teeth at old age, you know I already said this in The Procrastinators and The Mirror from Season 3 of The Amazing World Of Gumball.

Lars and the Cool Kids is definitely the nicer character exploration episode, but Too Many Birthdays is very nice in exploring Steven unique physiology and how it affects his state of mind (and vice-versa) As a duo it's nice to have both these episodes exploring Steven's relationship to the Gems and the humans, and how, as a unique half-Gem/half-human, he can be incomprehensible to both, even if his happy-go-lucky nature usually obscures that aspect of his
