These are terribly anxious times. My thoughts are with you. I was furloughed in April and I am still waiting to find out if I have a job to go back to. The stress is overtwhelming. I have no idea how I would be surviving without my knitting and spinning. This week I have buried myself in writing my first sock pattern. :)

Lisa, my heart goes out to you as you contemplate your return to work. How to teach in these times is a mystery. You should take courage in that you're very good at breaking through the wall between yourself and your listeners as per my experience watching your spinning channel. There are many that could learn a trick or two from you. Stay positive that you will navigate these waters and that you are well equipped for this challenge as a strong person with much experience. Best wishes. Let us know how it goes if you get the chance?

Lisa prayers for you as you deal with teaching. I was a first grade teacher for 34 years and I can’t imagine teaching now in the pandemic. I live in Massachusetts and our numbers are low. Our governor is very conservative about opening everything up. Enjoy your vacation and do yarn things. While I watched your podcast, I was combing some cormo🐑🧶. I can’t wait to watch Jen’s podcast. Thanks for the recommendation. Be safe😷❤️

Do to your videos about fleeces I have purchased some fleeces and am learning how to scour and process them for myself. I thank u for your segments that dive deeper into different breeds of sheep and at this point my favorite to spin is targhee however you have opened my eyes on the Shetland breeds. Hello Lisa I so enjoy your podcasts, only found you a few weeks ago so have been playing catch up. I have knit the debut shawl prefer yours with the picot cast off. I am tittering on the edge of getting into spinning I was so disappointed at the beginning of the year to go the 3 or 4 yarn shops fairly local here to me in the uk, and not being able to get any yarn with wool it was nearly all acrylic or acrylic mixes. So after watching you I have sent for my first dropped spindle. I have to say I find it a little intimidating. I hope your return to teaching goes ok I understand your apprehension completely, I am in the fortunate position of being retired now so don’t have that worry. Take care xx

We have a cabin in the central area of the UP. Sounds like a good place to be right now! I am gardening for canning this year, and so haven't got as much time to spend up there. But fall is coming, and I'll be able to be there then. Prayers with you for this coming school year! I have several close friends here (NW Ohio) who are teachers. It is such an upheaval for all of you, with so much uncertainty. But praying for each other helps! Enjoy your time up north, breathe deeply, and fill your senses and memory tank up with the peacefulness there.

Lisa, I do relate to your anxious feelings about returning to school...I teach art at the elementary level here in CT, and all of my colleagues are feeling this, if it is any comfort. I am 61, and work is stressful enough without Covid. These times are tough, our infection rates are low, we don’t know for how long they will remain so, but we will be lucky to get a couple months if that, before we need to go 100 percent remote again. If infection rates stay below 5 percent over an average of days, it is in school. If they rise over 9 percent it is full distance learning. No good choices here, and wondering who will teach those students on line who opt out of attending in the building. All remains to be seen, but we do have a full week of PD before students arrive, on September 8, in partial fashion for the first 2 days, anyway. Looks like 22% opting to stay home currently, my guess is that number may rise over the next weeks. We shall see. Thoughts are with you, enjoy your time away.

Loving your channel! I’m combining what started out to be an extremely dirty angora fleece. I got it for free and I have been working on it for 3 years (off and on 😏). It’s turning out great! But I’m wondering what you do with the waste from combing. ❤️
@SoulfulSpinning4 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, what to do with waste from combing? You could try combing again to get all the usable fiber from the ‘waste’, you could needle felt or throw it in a batt on a drum carder. I have tons of the stuff in a bag and haven’t really done anything with it yet. You could also make dryer balls. Sometimes I use it to dust the shelves, really picks up the dust.
@canndell4 жыл бұрын
Soulful Spinning great! I have made dryer balls. I actually had 6 oz of waste from combing an angora goat fleece. I ended up spinning it separate from the good stuff! It has a lot of vm and short cuts but it actually ended up nice. I will probably make a rug or dog bed with it 😊😊😊

I love your podcast. Your modest, you spin so beautifully, the results are every time, in my opinion, perfect. I understand that you find it difficult to go back to teaching. In the Netherlands momentarily Covid is spreading again! Because of the summer, people are traveling, social distancing is more then ever important. I know that it is difficult in working circumstances. At my work social distancing is also difficult, I try to deal with it. Out of the box, is it possible to teach in open air in months September/ beginning October? Outside is better then inside, because of ventilation, people have more space? In the Netherlands fitness schools put up large open like party tents so that people have space, fresh air. Can you discuss your fear with people at your school? Maybe they can/will consider other solutions for teaching other than in the school building? The whole world is waiting for a vaccine, I hope it will be developed in the near future so life can be more as we are used to. For me you are a inspiration for spinning, you gave me my mojo in spinning back. I thank you for that. Please take care! 😊

Thank you so much for your message! My very large public high school has decided to start the year with remote online education. With students passing from room to room, classrooms with no windows and many other challenges probably informed the decision making process. I will miss my face to face interactions with my students but hope by the school year’s end we may be back to in person learning. I love the idea of outside classrooms, but alas I don’t see that happening where I live. Keep spinning and stay as healthy as possible my friend. I hope to put out a video by the end of this week 🥰.

Oh oh oh oh oh! If you think The Book of Wool is a fine book, you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet! Go to Amazon books and look up The Fleece and Fiber Source Book by Ekarius and Robson. Word of warning: have someone in the room with you to help you up after you faint because it’s brilliant, a monster and a tome with over 100 sheep breeds and over 400 pages!
