So much Fun!! Float Fishing for Garfish - Banksia Beach, Bribie Island

Today we are here at Banksia Beach in Bribie Island targeting Garfish using float rigs. Float fishing is a lot of fun and very exciting as you can visually see your bait and float being taken away by the fish.
ImJasonFish top tips for targeting garfish:
• Carefully watch the float. The float does not need to be pulled directly down. Sometimes the float will be pulled side ways. A sharp change of direction or a movement out of the ordinary pattern indicates a garfish inquiry.
• Garfish throw the hooks easily, so once you have hooked on, quickly flick the garfish onto land.
• To bait, thread small bits of dough onto the hook as many times as you can. If you are using bread, use small hard pieces of bread and thread it on the hook once.
• Use small hook as garfish have tiny mouths - Size 10 Suicide beak hooks are great

Good all round spot that one Jason down towards Bellara. The other side of the canal also has sandbanks for whiting & bream. Looks like you got plenty of live bait for your next video 👍

Hey Chris, yeh not to bad of a spot. Last time we were on the sand flats but caught nothing. Then we moved to direct other side of the canal and caught some good big size garfish. Does the time of day matter or just the tide

Hey James, you can target garfish any time of the day. Hopefully the sun is out so you can see your float 🌞 Generally, I like a incoming high tide to target garfish, but in this session, the garfish seem to be more hungry with an outgoing tide. Question, why would you want to catch these? What are they good for? Looks like you'd be better off burlying up and throwing a cast net out.

@thedon fun to catch, different style of fishing, great eating, great bait… lotsa reasons why. Cast net takes the fun out of targeting a specific species. From memory, he catches these for eating 🥣

Hey mate, thanks for watching and leaving a comment 👍 Garfish are prized for bait (Check your fishing shop bait section). Eating terms - they are like your poor man's whiting. When you catch big garfish (30cm+) you get some nice fillets of them. Otherwise, the small and medium ones are great for fish stock in soup. In this session, the garfish were small and medium sized. You are right - just burley up and cast a net. I would do that, but what's the fun in that and video content wise haha. Thanks for the questions 👍
