maybe a unpopular take, but I think we are reaching the end of the stupid "the next game needs to look better graphically" era of games. This game could look the exact same graphically as World and I would not care at all with all the map, physics, and environmental changes. I think falling into the trap that games have to improve on graphic quality is what got us into this era where the only major advancements in some game series was just improved graphics.

@@dannygalarza7730 in terms of story, it doesn’t even seem clear if it’s the new world imo cuz I’ve run into conflicting discussions about that. (Correct me if it’s been confirmed officially) But mechanically it probably does feel like that from just the demos and previews because a lot of it *does* include refinements on mechanics they introduced in World/Iceborne (majority of weapon movesets and their newer moves from fifth gen, having your own personal mount vs having an uncontrollable mount that your palico summons from the environment, and the degree of environmental interaction, to name a few) However I do feel like the more gen-defining changes and features just aren’t quite felt yet because we don’t have the full game and the dev team doesn’t seem to be tripping over themselves to show all their cards. I do think the biggest argument in *favor* of you feeling like it’s an expansion to World is that the devs have stated something along the lines of “this is closer to what we would have done with World if our technology was capable of it”, so in design philosophy it’s not very surprising if it feels particularly similar in places.

It's not that rough for old Gen games to gauge damage increase, and it's due to hitstop. Yeah that's why hitstop is one thing that many old Gen players takes as very important. I'd argue Gravios works flawlessly with the wounding mechanic cuz he's one of the few monster that rewards knowing what parts to break over another by a big margin, which is Gravios' gimmick. Breaking his wings makes him tumble & fall when he jumps. This helps make his back vulnerable, which when broken, is where the gas escapes instead of his belly after he fires the laser
@NipplesTheEnchilada232312 күн бұрын
In Old World Monster Hunter you had to gauge how much you were doing via the Blood Spray, where more blood equals more damage. There were also online guides that people made for the Motion Value of each attack for each weapon, which essentially means the more motion value a certain attack has, the more damage it does. Old World games are hard to get into nowadays, due to how streamlined World and beyond are, but they aren't impossible to learn, as I've seen quite a few streamers play them after playing World or Rise and enjoying their time with the games, regardless of how less streamlined they are.
@johndelanie364912 күн бұрын

@@johndelanie3649 I hear you, but the way the series is now is way more accessible for new players, and I say that as a Veteran of the series since the first on PS2. Needing to do Claw Grip just to have good control of your camera just wasn't intuitive in the first two generations of the series, and it felt way more clunky in comparison to later games in the series. Also, you probably only think it isn't difficult because of how much more streamlined the series is now, compared to how it was in the past, as I've seen plenty of new players struggle with early Large Monsters in World, like the Anjanath for example. It's not that it isn't difficult, it's that you are more experienced than most players.

@@unclebaba3463 people really exaggerate it. Modern MH still has its own brand of jank you have to get used to as a new player, older MH is no different. People just don't like feeling like they have to relearn the game. They also like to blanket every older monhun game under that umbrella as if there weren't gameplay improvements and progress being made from title to title. Go back and play the original monster hunter or MH freedom and then play MH4 Ultimate and tell me they feel the same lol

I think that polishing the rough edges out of every class kills any identity they have. Whiffing as a GS user is normal and a learning curve of the class imo.
@johndelanie364912 күн бұрын
Exactly, the more edges you sand off the less rewarding actually getting better is. I see so many new gen players saying "oh well it sucks to whiff X move" or "you have to build up so much resource to Y, why losing it all on a miss feels bad". That's the point. Practice, don't miss, the more you do it the better you get, that used to be the whole point of Monster Hunter. Much like FromSoft games the knowledge is what you actually gain from your attempts, and the knowledge is what makes you succeed next time.

Not showing damage numbers was one of the reasons why hit-stop was so important in the pre world games. The main way you could tell how much damage you’d be doing was by seeing how quickly the monster would flinch + the hit-stop

Feel like a lot of the World-adjacent stuff was by design, if not to act as a direct follow-up to it, than to build upon its concepts as standards going forward. While I'll miss switch skills (wolverine meme @ Surge Slash for GS), the new additions to combat's fundamentals definitely adds a lot more new flavor than I was expecting, and things like Focus Mode and the wound-system this time around are really satisfying to pull off, and also help better incentivize different playstyles with a weapon's more traditional moveset. Speaking as a GS fan, yeah, there's already been a lot less whiffing during my time in OBT, and I felt like I could approach a more offensive playstyle than hit-and-run. By comparison, I feel like Rise was more of an evolution of MH Generations' big selling point between Hunting Styles and its special attacks, but integrated in a more streamlined, and organic manner that I think really worked well, perfect for what can be considered the second game in the fifth generation.

Just wanna lyk that you cannot call seikret when you are knocked back or on the ground, so its not like rise wirefall. Only way you could recover with seikret after a blow is by calling seikret just before you are hit with a blow and if the seikret is hit by that blow in the process it wont pick you up, so you cannot spam seikret pick up save you gotta do it old fashion way.

This is how you make a sequel. You take the beautiful foundation of your previous game, and you build ontop of it and give the players more of what they love. Too many developers way over innovate and throw away all the good elements of their previous games in favor of innovating and trying to "modernize." Thats where games like battlefield have gone wrong today. People just wanted more BF3 and 4. But instead we got 2042. Just take what you know works. And build on it.
@GurenSan12 күн бұрын
My take about weapons in new MH games is that you should always try out new weapons. Each game each weapon works slightly different because of basic gameplay mechanics or because of the weapon got new moves, so some weapons will be more fun in a game than others. I usually stick with using SnS + a new weapon, like in WIlds I think I will stick to SnS and GL (and maybe even one more). edit: Came in for Monster Hunter, came out hungry.

When playing the beta though you can feel just how different of a game it is. The behind the scenes of the combat creation for wilds is insanely cool. You gotta check it out and see just how much more work was done to accomplish all these new animation. The way you guard your great sword now so fluidly is amazing. Going to mh rise after playing the beta feels so insanely strange. I really don’t know how to explain it perfectly. You just have to try the game for yourself. A much much better experience that doesn’t resemble world at all. Different engines too
