Describing Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper as "family friendly mario-likes" is unfortunately such a severe lack of ball knowledge that this whole list has been invalidated.

It's kinda funny because all of those three games have an angle that's more adult than what people would view Mario as. Jak and Daxter turns into a future dystopia setting by the next game, with guns and alien enemies. It's kind of like PG GTA. Ratchet and Clank loves to throw innuendos and adult jokes, while also having a huge theme about consumerism and capitalism. Sly Cooper is just very mature and well-written. The cast is very fleshed out, and the journey can get really emotional.

I liked 90s hip hop but 2000s was awful and it infected and ruined so many mid to late PS2 games. Need For Speed, Midnight Club, Def Jam going from AKI wrestling games, even NBA games. Maybe the games were objectively fun but I couldn't stand the vibe. Still can't. So as a kid Gran Turismo was an absolute haven. It was pure, classy and refined.

DMC3 on Switch has DMC4 style switching. Which flat out makes the game "feel" better. It's closer to a remake than a port because of that. Completely changes how the game plays.

I'm in the minority. Def Jam was absolutely a top 10 game. The music, gameplay, story mode, vs... everything was perfect and as a fighter (if you classify it as such) may not have been as technical or traditional as Tekken or VF but was more fun with friends. Also a surprisingly better story.

I full heartedly agree with KH2 > 1 but they also said they don’t like what KH “became” and if we’re being honest it “started” with 2. CoM was a GB exclusive and truthfully I don’t even count it as a credible release until RE. It’s also when Level Design/Puzzles took a back seat to Combat which became 10x better. Which is funny bc they hate Deep Jungle, Wonderland, and Atlantica which 2 of those are considered the most puzzle centric worlds. Truthfully though can we say anything World in KH2 is comparable in Puzzles to Hollow Bastion in KH1? Regardless, better game but you’re preaching to the wrong choir bc they don’t give af about the Story. All they see is the Disney and nothing of relevance in the actual plot (weird considering how the actual story is some of the best FF writing and its not even in a FF game)

Even if a console's parts are comparable to the latest consumer PC at the time, which they never are, in a couple years the PC parts are just going to get better. Kh2 final mix is one of the best examples of a low skill floor but high skill celling game. Anyone regardless of skill level can pick up the game and have a fun time, but there is a ton of depht to discover when exploring the games higher difficulties.

The dichotomy between Shadow of the Colossus and GTA: Vice City on terms of game design is actually pretty interesting. The former is a deconstruction of video game design, taking only what is necessary to sell you the atmosphere and the story to great lengths, the latter is a refinement of many game designs coming together into one holistic experience. I believe it's the reason why they were both so divided on it, deconstruction vs refinement.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but FF is overrated, there's so many great JRPGS that don't get their deserved recognition because people in the west just consider FF games to be by default better. Dragon Quest VIII for example doesnt get nearly its deserved recognition due to lists always putting FFX as the JRPG everytime. Theres a lot of other JRPGS Id rather play than FFX also, but I do think FFX is a good game.

The DMC vs Onimusha discussion made me think about how we talk about lists like this. I think that, above pure numerical rankings, it's good to discuss games in terms of lineage and inspiration: DMC absolutely does descend from Resident Evil's DNA just like Onimusha does, so Max and Steve are both correct in a way. (Kenny is correct in rejecting the comparison between Burnout and GT for the same reason, they are at most cousins on a family tree.) When making a list like this, divorced from concepts of genre or category beyond "plays on the system," I think the best you can hope for is to have the best representative of every lineage. In that sense, the list they ended up with is pretty good: we've got an action-RPG, a pure RPG, a spectacle fighter, a brawler, a horror game, a fighting game, a sim racer, an open-world game, a stealth-action game, and a... well, Shadow of the Colossus is pretty much the progenitor of its own line. The fact is that there are simply too many branches of the tree to cover with only ten games by this point in gaming's history, and arcade racers, sports games, platformers, and the like all deserve a spot as well, and which are best represented on a console will ultimately come down to personal preference. PS: Simmons picking KH1 as his favorite of the series is... I don't want to judge personal favorites, but really??

This list actually represents my brothers and I growing up, they were much older but they are my idols. My oldest brother played MGS3: Subsistence the most, love watching him play online, he was a total badass with the headshots. He always favored playing on CUS or Killhouse B. My second oldest brother played a lot of Shadow of the Colossus, it was his daily grind, he knew every secret, it had epic battles and a unforgettable tragic love story (for me anyways). He still plays a ton of RPGs, Souls-like games. And I played a lot of everything including GTA, it was just so fun messing around in, blowing crap up. These were great games and we had great times.

I’m going to be that cynical arse but RE4 is NOT a PS2 game. It’s aGameCube game made specifically for the GameCube that was horribly ported over to the PS2. Granted, it’s not THAT bad compared to the 2007 Ubisoft PC port, it’s actually kind of a miracle how Capcom was able to even do it but it’s infamous for being a butchered port.
