I didn’t know who Clark Beckham was until seeing this. Yes, He was a runner up on American Idol. Both were raised in the church and have fathers who are pastors. Very gospel infused with those double clap moments in the chorus. They compliment each other so well on this cover. Of course anything that Yebba touches becomes elevated to a different level. Yebba and Sam Smith’s duet No Peace is one of my favorite songs, period.

She says her biggest influence was the clark sisters. iirc i think she grew up pentecostal, and wouldn’t be surprised if their church was pretty diverse since she’s from west memphis I see the stuff you’ve been liking and i think you’re gonna love evergreen. I know you’ve some old stuff from before she lost her mom, and evergreen is the start of the all of songs about that even though it’s sad, it’s also worship-like and even joyful in a way though. really puts power in the soulfulness of it. you gotta watch the apple music video cut. it’s incredible

Could it be that she/we 'acquire' a gospel sound by association - similar to how we (as children) acquired (rather than learned) how to conversate? I mean, we 'learned' words, however, 'how' we spoke, we acquired from those who were around us. Nevertheless, the girl is BAAAD! (Or as you put it, 'She's 🔥!!!!')
