I am so glad to get your thoughts on Bloodmarked! I felt so emotionally wrung out by the end, and I had a book hangover for about three days because I just could not stop thinking about it! It was so frustrating to watch Bree get strung along in all these different directions throughout the book, but when she took control at the end? I was screaming. I mean, I don't know if the decision she's making is the best one, but at least it's HERS for once, right? UGH. Can't wait for book 3. Also, Alice and William really got spotlighted in this book, and I love them both so so much more than I did in the first one. And I loved them then, too!

I've been saving this video but I finished Bloodmarked this morning and immediately watched it lol. Completely agree with everything you said. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who got a little lost in the ending dream sequency stuff. Tracy has such a gift for weaving hard-hitting wisdom into a highly entertaining, action-packed plot. You were the person that made me pick up Legendborn earlier this year and I instantly became so obsessed 😩 I listened to the audiobook to prepare for Bloodmarked and the narrator was so incredible I had to add it to my preorders! Bloodmarked was such a wonderful ride and while I'm devastated that we will need to wait for another book I can't help but be grateful that Tracy didn't need to rush anything and can give us the satisfaction of a story told in its own time. I do need that book 3 release date tho 😭 I had to approach it in small chunks as I found the first part so incredibly frustrating on Bree's behalf, the racism she faces just boils the blood.

There was SO much in this book! I felt like I needed a phd in Legendborn world building to get it 😅. Idk, Bree felt like she had way less agency in this one and spent a lot of the time just watching what was going on. That was a bit frustrating...and I defs skimmed all the dream stuff at the end. Still super pumped to see what happens in the next one though!

I started reading Legendborn the week I was due to deliver my daughter lol. You better believe I finished the book in the hospital between feeds 😂 I’m actually holding off on reading book 2 because I know it’s going to consume me and I have 2 young kids. I need to make sure I have the headspace to honour book 2 and maybe reread book 1 right before for full enjoyment !

I'm so glad you enjoyed Bloodmarked! Personally, I think I read a different book from everyone else. I was SO disappointed. Motives and objectives changed every two seconds based on what the author needed for the plot rather than from character development. The Bree and Sel I know and love from book 1 wouldn't spend half the book trying to decide whether or not to go after Nick, only to be like "nah, let's forget him and just go into hiding." It felt like a cheap way to strengthen one side of the love triangle, considering both of them have such a deep connection with Nick. For me, the book shined the most the few scenes we got with all three of them together. I love their dynamic as a trio!

I think that was sort of the point of the book is that they were struggling (esp bree) with not being able to make the decisions the way she used to because of her role now. So weighing all of this duty and expectation before making every move was her main struggle and then SPOILER . . . . at the end her telling Arthur AND Vera that she is her own person and makes her own decisions, that reclaiming of her power and going off with the hunter or whoever he is, that was sort of the point of the book. It was a little annoying to read but I think Tracy put a lot of thought into how to portray that - respecting the sacrifice and expectations of your ancestors but still carving your own path, you know? But I totally get where you're coming from!!

I was really disappointed too tbh. I really think this book would have benefited from being a multi-point of view. As well as the irritation I have with the way the love triangle is being developed, I also feel like this book feels really dragged out cause of the singular pov.

To me it showed maturity vs just jumping to do whatever she wanted. She was spontaneous before because of her grief and fiery personally. She had to learn to weigh decisions and Sel was also battling losing his humanity. To me, they aren’t the same characters from book 1, so they wouldn’t make book 1 decisions. Showing progression and growth many authors don’t allow their characters to do since people are obsessed with them remaining the same.

So good to see my exact excitement reflecting in you! Unlike you I actually didn't knew it was a trilogy or more. So the whole time i was reading the book and reaching the end i kept thinking and worrying 'how will she resolve the whole plot in 50 pages, 30 pages, 20 pages and so on. I'm glad I read Bloodmarked in 2024 because I couldn't be waiting 2 years for the Oathbound! I knew that this series orbits around grief, but wow, I feel like I'm in grief now. I feel so sad for Sel ... At least they shared this one moment of hapinness at the end, but why he has to sacrifice so much of himself, that unbelievable. I wish I was there to give him a hug.

~ I like your thoughts on how Tracy handles the heavy subjects and how different people react to grief. ~ I know exactly what you mean by this book being good *as a second book* in a series of whatever number of books. ~ Yes, Bree turned into a dragon in Arthur's dreamscape where he spent all that time waiting to be awakened. ~ All it took for me to be sucked into the story world was to read a couple paragraphs, and the moment I closed the book again to do other things, the real world came rushing back unpleasantly. ^~^ ~ Usually when someone says, "trust me," you should be cautious, but this part at the end of Chapter 18 (now that I can quote it and not spoil you) gave me unexpected tears: "You can go faster. You're running into pitch-black and you can't see, so your brain is fighting you. Fight back. It's a straight line. I promise you won't hit a wall. Run faster. Trust me!"

I've saved this video for myself for when I had finished reading both books and I finally did last night!! I totally agree that the dream sequence at the end of BM was kinda confusing, especially in the parallel chapter of Arthur inhabiting Bree's body and being reintroduced to all the scions and squires and the regents, I was honestly so lost because it's a bit too many characters and title. But otherwise the book is absolutely fantastic and I thank you for recommending it so strongly, you gave me the push I needed to actually read it!! That ending too!!!! I hope we get book 3 soon because I desperately need it!

I just finished bloodmarked and had come here and see how cari felt. For me I loved it especially the second half. The dynamic between Bree and sel in the first half of book left me so frustrated and confused. After what happened in the first book i don't think sel would be so against Bree wanting to fight and then into hiding. I don't know, but the constantly fighting and the lack of tender and emotional moments between sel and Bree in the first half made me so frustrated with them.

Love your review. I read both books before listening. Finished second book early this morning before the sun was up. I was confused at very few parts, those sections included some of the interactions between or mention of multiple descendants of the Legend born at once in a scene. I agree that this author is next level in how she balances everything and keeps you wanting to want more. Subscribing to see what else you recommend. I love a good book but I'm also on the look out for more diverse female MC storylines.

Aww I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was absolutely in love with Legendborn but tbh, this one just didn't do it for me at all :( I'm not too keen on "quest" plot where characters spend the entire book traveling from one place to another but this was made worse by the fact that there was no clear goal to the quest / the goal kept changing every couple of chapters. Someone needs to explain to me what happened in the last part of the book - I literally have no clue what happened since the moment Arthur took over 😵 Important question tho, what's your go-to ship at the end of Bloodmarked 😊

I just left a comment similar to this! I felt the same way. I'm glad I'm not alone! It was too all over the place for me. No clear goals. And like things were happening TO Bree rather than her having any actual agency. I'm also not a Sel fangirl, so that might have hindered my enjoyment of the book. haha

​@@e-nev YES and the fact that she kept willingly putting herself in danger only to be saved!! It felt very 2010 YA protagonist in the worst way. I'm definitely a Selwin girl but the constant arguing over the same issue emotionally exhausted me 😭😭 I don't see how the way the romance evolved could be satisfying for either ship :((

Mmm, I think that was the point! As the daughter of daughters/the daughter of sons, she had no agency. She kept trying to find it, kept searching through the ideologies of her ancestors to find it and then finally realized they were the problem all along. SPOILER . . . I still think she's batshit bananas for leaving with the Shadow King and assuming the worst of the part of the order currently loyal to her, but that's just bad decisions, y'know? Her mother did warn her about what her grief would do *shrug*
