I got myself a rift a few years ago and this was one of the things I tried. I was living at a school dorm at the time, and lots of People visited my room to try it out themselves. This included the dorm manager, who had worked as a professional pilot for years and always dreamt of going to space. He was absolutely amazed by it. A little later he held a daily meeting for all dorm members, starting it with the line "15 minutes ago, I was orbiting the earth on the ISS." He talked about it for almost 15 minutes. I never heard or had that thought about laying on the grass and looking up making you feel like ur gonna fall off earth. That's actually quite damn scary major props for attempting this I hate the thought of space too. And under water. The other day as I was driving, the sky started getting to the point of almost black, was at that dark blue stage and there were huge, long dark clouds in the sky. I had the thought of "imagine you were blind and then suddenly seeing clouds for the first time" and I got super terrified ☹️ even tho I knew what clouds were and that I was perfectly safe. Just a very uncomfortable and overwhelming feeling.

I have that feeling too. It's worse if you lay on your back and lean your head back far enough that you're viewing things upside down. The reason you feel like you're going to "fall" is because of how your brain interprets depth. We normally view the ground at 5-6 feet up (the distance from the surface to your eyes), but when viewing things upside down, the ground is now a "ceiling" and the sky has become a bottomless pit, so your brain thinks it's about to "fall."

@Clear Melody it's almost like realizing you are "magnetized" to the earth. And earth isn't the down you fall, out is where you fall. The true fear isnt falling towards earth, but falling away from it. It's like looking up at a clear sky, day or night, your mind somehow perceives the movement and your mind gets vertigo because it's a subconscious perception not a conscious one. So even though your body doesn't feel movement, your mind does, its realizing you are on a huge ball that rotating. Like when you are in one vehicle standing still next to another vehicle and that vehicle starts to move and you automatically brace because you think tour vehicle is moving.

You'll find most of these fears classified as phobias, some even getting so bad that it impacts daily life that would otherwise be no big deal. If you're planning on being an astronaut, obviously you would not understand people with fear of heights or space. It's like a nascar racer thinking it's weird that some people are scared of driving to a crippling level.

Just like MS Flight Simulator has actual volunteer tower control, for realism, this could be an option, down the road. A few people in "Houston", and a few others that log in as additional astronauts, and have to perform various missions. Beside that, at least he calmed so ewhat by grounding himself to the room. And to think, this was just VR, and two controllers, and NOT the real thing. Astonauts, are superheroes. As he said.

This is just for perspective on how fast that is. Moving on. However, compressing the day by a factor of 1/16(1.5 hours/ 24 hours) means that a day on ISS is 16 times faster than Earth and would be 1/16th of an Earth day. So the 5 minute sunset would be 16 times faster as well. 5/16=0.315 minutes which is 18 seconds. The sun would appear above the horizon and within 18 seconds vanish completely. This is assuming the sunset is 5 minutes on earth, which is plenty generous. The actual lowest duration being 2 minutes (2/5th of the assumed time) would generate a value of 7 seconds. The answer being, Sunset lasts around 7-18 seconds from the perspective of the ISS.
