"There's no other mask that matters other than the giant pog fish." Funnily enough, you're actually 100% correct. The Kine mask is the ONLY mask in the game with an extra effect which you may or may not have noiced, it gives you the enhanced Water spit underwater without actually having the ability itself.

Wait what? So do you by default have your regular copy ability underwater or do they just make you swim? Because even with just the spit ability the water world was boring as hell (hence why it was mostly skipped over)

Most abilities that use weapons like Sword and Parasol can be used underwater, but everything else gives the regular underwater spit. It just hits one enemy and doesn't go very far, but if you have Water or the Kine mask, it pierces through enemies and doubles the length. Using the mask lets you use the stronger version without being forced to use Water for it, letting you keep abilities that don't have an effect underwater or if you don't have an ability at all. Wish I knew about that trick earlier.

Hey sophist, a few abilities in the game have some special, really cool looking moves, usually AoE that require..... "gamer" inputs. For most of them, you first crouch, then you attack upwards. Water gives you a rainbow, fountain, whip gives you a high jump with a rapidly spinning whip, and not sure what sand or mecha do, but they probably have one. Ninja has the opposite. press up then attack dowards. You'll create a bunch of sakura flowers then slam then down with a fan(You know, that japanese one that is shaped like part of a circle) If you pause, with an ability then scroll to the right, the screen shows all of the command inputs along with their names. But, you know, you can only use them if you're a GAMER

Fun Fact: the pause screen tells you what moves you can do with each power, including powerless, as well as ( if i recall correctly) little lore bits when you pause on a boss fight.
