Was it really so hard for them to add items from the real game? The world shown in the movie is not consistent at all - anyone who plays Minecraft can tell that at first sight, the mobs look horrible like they are AI generated, its horrendous looking not funny.. It would still be possible for them to place real people in the world while keeping it non-horrible but seems the people who worked on the art have never placed Minecraft themselves. To most who actually plays Minecraft regularly it gives off a really uncanny and unsettling feelings and the fact they argued "this movie is not meant for you" after receiving Backlash from 95% of the Minecraft community is pathetic considering the current teens and young adults the people who grew up along Minecraft when they were young kids, they are the one who have long awaited for the movie, to most 9 year old today the Minecraft movie won't hold much significance..

It would be so easy to write a classic hero's journey set in Minecraft. Make Steve part of a village that gets attacked by the ender dragon or something and he goes on his hero's journey to avenge his village, they could do all the key parts mining for resources, making armor and weapons, building a base, farming endermen for pearls to then go to a nether fortress for the end portal, kill the dragon, return home as the village hero and now protector from zombies and raids etc. You don't need to reinvent the wheel just make a good film.

I personally am not a judge something because of a trailer since. "The Dark Knight." I wasnt a fan of hearing or seeing Heath Ledger as the joker. But i was so so wrong about the movie, its my favorite batman movie and Heath delivered. But i do have to say i agree with the llama and sheep. Too realistic. Warner Bros is having the same problem Paramount faced with Sonic. That Sonic was “creepy” and “upsetting,” that his eyes were too un-conjoined, his features too dissimilar to those of his video-game counterpart. Its a shame because Warner Bros did, Detective Pikachu, and that realism feel kept the characters features but turned the fur and movement more realistic. I think Warner Bros missed the opportunity in keeping realism but keept the block formstion like, The Lego Movie, had. The stop motion feel of lego movie made it feel that we were watching legos move around and not CGI experts making legos look realistic. Sonic and this movie is pishing chatacter to realistic that shocks us and creeps us out. You HAVE to keep the cartoon, in this case the pixel feel. Miss opportunity i feel. But as the story goes and having Jack Black as Steve i reserve judgment. But the CGI is Sonic creepy.

It looks like it’s going to be like the original Sonic animation but they probably won’t give into the audience feedback. Also they could very easily just suck them into the game then animate them into Minecraft characters (like the game) but this just seems lazy. I've never played Minecraft be4 but I know a couple of people who have and I don't know if they even know about this movie. I mean I think I saw a trailer for it a while ago but who knows anyway another great video Matt keep up the gr8 work. Also just as a little bit of info for you. They've been doing other movies such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which was live action. It was completely different from the book if you know what I mean. So yeah I mean I used to play a similar game on my 3ds called Cube Creator 3D and It's very similar to Minecraft but the main charater is different.

From this trailer, I am wondering who this movie is for? There has been so many big misses in video games (Concord, Dustborn) Movies (Borderlands), and series (Acolyte, Halo) like who is the product attracting? I played Minecraft and watched things like Smosh Games Maricraft as well as old Mathias vids, but this is very kid/preteen coded with the vfx style. Also I counted 3 adults and two kids, with the emphasis on Jack Black and Jason Mamoa, so is it catering to parents? Also from reading the description Jennifer Coolage is in it as well? “Taking survival skills back into the real world”- so yes Jumanji-Minecraft. I guess Hollywood thinks “big IP, stars, money” and leave out originality and story?

From the looks of the trailer my theory for the story is that they almost want to go in the Dwayne Johnson jumanji route where kid finds blue cube either while playing mc or in his house, gets into the game along with his family/friends, meets jackblack Steve who is actually retired. Through flashback, we see Steve's adventures. All of them team up defeat the big bad and return to the normal/human world.

My initial reaction was something along the lines of my low expectations just dropped dramatically. I saw someone say they should have had Element Animation do this and I think that would have been the right play. They have been doing it for years and have a style down that is fun and friendly that just makes sense for the game and has become part of its branding. There’s also so much lore in Minecraft already built-into the game and fan base that a few hours on Game Theory should have given them more than enough material to write something in-game without resorting to “Jumanji…but it’s blocky”. It also felt a bit jarring as the pigs felt more cartoony than the animals. So the overall art coherence felt off to me. I know it’s a teaser trailer, but it felt like a miss just about every step of the way. Your question of if anyone on the team even played the game feels spot-on for the overall feel of the trailer. Also, I know it’s quite mild, but why did they have a character cussing right out of the gate? Who is this movie even for if they are going down that road?

I too had no idea, and this might be a big flop. Agree with Matt, it should have been a full-on animated movie. They went with the uncanny AI from-cartoon-to-photorealistic characters look. Look at that fur: looks photoreal, and weirdly like a plushie's fur. I think it's set in the Minecraft world but very disconnected from the game itself. It's for sure made for families more than for the fans, kind of like how the FNaF movie was PG13 and was nothing like the game: because it was meant for kids that don't really care for lore or accuracy of the story.

The music they used for this is a song called the magical mystery tour by the Beatles, which I don't know why they chose this song for a Minecraft movie. I would've just chose one of the Minecraft theme tunes. And every KZbinr I've seen react to this has not liked it as they don't like the fact there's people in it and don't like how it just looks like someone's taken Minecraft and added loads of mods and shaders to it instead of actually just looking like raw Minecraft. And if I was doing a live action Minecraft movie I would've had all the actors get a haircut to make their hair and if they have a beard their beard look more square or use special effects to make their hair look more square because it just looks like someone's been playing a mod in Minecraft Screen recorded it and use it as green screen and just put a load of people on top of it the people don't actually look like they're there they look like they're just plucked on top of the world because I think all the lighting on the characters are off with the lighting in the world

It was the celebration of the 10 or so year anniversary of Minecraft. I do agree that the opening theme song should be of Minecraft. The theme song does sound like Jumanji. And, the whole movie looks weird and does not look right. The graphics should be the same as the another movie called Pixels. I also hope it has a good storyline as well.

Also in the scene where Steve is in the nether, there’s a character in the back who has glowing eyes. My guess is that’s the necromancer because of the blue cube one of the main characters have.

Legally, they can't use the Minecraft theme I believe. The creator of the music, C418, actually stopped working with mojangs due to a rights disagreement. Mojang wanted 100% ownership, but the creator wanted the rights to his music. So now there are 3 or so new music creators for the game.
