This was Kinnman's best role so far. (I enjoyed his take on Robocop as well, but James Gunn really dove into his true potential). It's funny how this is the same character from several years ago who used to be so bland compared to the rest of the team. He didn't change much but the changes that were made to his character made him much more enjoyable. Especially how he treats his squadmates like his proteges. He probably got that from that first Suicide Squad mission after realizing that they are just flawed humans who can do some good and learned to respect them. Now he tries to envoke the best in them from the get go by showing care and respect.

And doing so does get results, which they show subtly but effectively. The entire crew was a twitch away from mutiny and murder the first movie, but here they actually do show him some respect because he gives it to them first. People are always more willing to help and cooperate if they're treated reasonably, which is something Waller never learns but Flagg absolutely does. They actually listen to him, it's really well handled.

Savants character was a bit uneven in how he died [sorry about the spoiler], having him panic and "run" when he's a stone cold professional _and he knew about the bomb in his head._ He could have just radioed that he was repositioning in order to flank the enemy … that would have made sense.

I feel like that's what makes it funny, the dramatic irony of us as viewers knowing that he's a D-List supervillain is reflected in his immediate cracking under pressure. That was the whole point in having a fakeout with the protagonists. If you saw it coming that he was a goner then his breakdown is comedic, on the flipside if you expected him to be a main character then his breakdown is surprising and still comedic.

Savant was never meant to survive, and he realized it. The entire idea of Team 1's assault was so that the enemy would see the predictable American infiltration of Corto Maltese as a complete catastrophic failure while Team 2 made their landing. Waller was just disappointed Savant ended up not playing along. But she would never have let him "flank" or "reposition" because he was only ever supposed to die in full view of the Corto Maltese army. Instead she had to quickly blow his brains before the Corto Maltesians got the idea that members of the team might have escaped to other parts of the island - thereby endangering Team 2. As for Savant - he THOUGHT he was a stone cold professional, which is not the same as being one. You can just tell from his self-given name "Savant" the opinion he had of himself. And in those final moments of life he broke down because he realized he was nothing more than a pawn in the design of someone far smarter than himself.
