Xbox was never strong in Asia. Plus the screw up with the xbox one launch killed any momentum they gained from the 360 and pushed people to sony. People buy cars for various reasons-comfort, safety, performance, style, etc. Who buys a car because it has cup holders? Is being able to take my soda from my house to my car to my office a selling point? Who TF cares? Think of it like cellphone companies. Everybody sells iPhone and galaxy devices but you have customers who prefer Att over Verizon and some swear by T-Mobile. At some point the carriers have to offer something beyond the phone to not just retain customers but to generate new business. That usually will come in the form of perks and services. Right now on paper without bias Microsoft has the better ecosystem and product “ON PAPER” XBSX is the stronger console/ecosystem with more features over the standard PS5. Stronger CPU 3.8ghz over 3.5, more internal storage, quick resume, best in class backwards compatibility and game pass with day one releases and it’s cheaper. PS5 has much better marketing, a loyal fan base, more exclusive titles and The controller has more functionality. No one has mentioned the PlayStation exclusives that have gone to Xbox. Death Stranding, MLB the show, Tekken, Final Fantasy, Crash Bandicoot, Kingdom hearts. Xbox has piss poor marketing and brand identity whereas PlayStation has extremists who are willing to pay a premium for brand loyalty

When it comes to handhelds, I will only purchase Nintendo Switch systems. Nintendo games are designed for this type of form factor. PC and console System games are meant to be played on powerful, beautiful and big displays.

I tried a couple different handheld models. Fun at first for sure, but you sacrifice battery depending on the game and settings you desire. The Switch is exactly as you described and its performance and value are just worth it. These handhelds are also going to be releasing versions like hotcakes for the short term….so talk of Legion Go 3 will be in the discussion this time next year without a doubt. If you're playing the latest and greatest all the time, then yeah, a PC would be better. According to Steam Replay 2024, the average play time for Steam users of recent games (past 1-7 years), is 47%. For classic games (8 or more years old), the number is 37%. Based off of that, handheld systems should be fine for the majority of players.

If this next phase is Steam OS based handhelds from various companies then Nintendo will need to really think hard to make Switch 2 unique and better. The SteamOS based handhelds are already emulating the Switch 1 well, so not much updates to run Switch 2 games. Thanks to the GamePass my XBox Series S was one of my best gaming investments in the last years. I often have a friend over who doesn't have a PC or console, so he also doesn't have games or a GamePass. For years I was planning on buying a second PC so we could play together, but GPUs just were too expensive. Then the XBox Series S released and it was cheaper than just a GPU. I can use my GamePass on my PC and my XBox at the same time. So since then we can play tons of games together without having to buy an expensive PC and without having to buy games twice. I also don't need a second desk, because he just plays with a Joypad on my TV. We can also play couch coop games that way. Of course that would also be possible with a second pc and I could also use a second pc on my TV, but the XBox is cheaper and the GamePass doesn't work on two PCs at the same time. I'm well aware that that's a somewhat niche situation, but since Microsofts focus is on the GamePass, it kinda works like it is supposed to. I bought their console I wouldn't have otherwise. And due to the console the GamePass has so much value that I haven't ended my subscription at any time, even when I had less time to play.

It is sad to see one of the big three collapsing before our very eyes and to have so many people be in denial about it. Xbox will eventually no longer be a physical console. I keep hearing people say that “this is a new strategy” and that Xbox losing exclusives is only a good thing, and that Xbox is thriving. Financially maybe, but as a console manufacturer? It’s a fast-sinking ship and they know it. They will simply become a large third party software company. So many people are framing this as a “new strategy” but it isn’t. It’s exactly what Sega did in the early 2000’s. It is a matter of when, not if, Microsoft will stop producing dedicated consoles at this point. There is nearly ZERO incentive to buy an Xbox, and I can easily see next Generation being their last. No exclusives to drive hardware sales. No substantial first party games to port. A service that eats away at and cannibalizes the potential sales and profits of the games they are producing. They’ve put themselves in a situation where their only option now is to sell to as many people as possible, on other consoles, as no one wants to be on their own. And despite Microsoft’s vast wealth, it’s unlikely they will want to manufacture 40 million new consoles with which they’ve pushed themselves in a corner where they’re unable to make a substantial argument as to why anyone should choose it over literally anything else. Microsoft will be very successful as a third part software developer, no doubt, in fact likely more successful than they ever were as a console manufacturer. But they need to stop framing themselves as a console competitor. They’re slowly pulling a Sega, that’s what’s happening. At some point, mark my words, they will pull out entirely. Probably after next gen, or possibly even before it. They’re clearly positioning themselves in that direction. They should just be brave enough to admit it.

Then corner the market, and continually increase prices all round so it’s now the worst gaming deal out there. That’s their plan anyway. If they fail, the handheld is probably another way to get people on their platform seeing how successful Nintendo and Valve have been with theirs. I still think Microsoft should consider phasing the Xbox branding out of their services. Simply calling it “Microsoft’s Console/PC Game Pass” with a bundle called the “Ultimate Game Pass” does everything the current naming convention does without feeling nearly as insulting. They can probably keep the Xbox name alive through future dedicated consoles or, heck, adapting it into a gaming PC brand.

I would love to see Nintendo show up here and absolutely blow everything else away. All we know is both Sony and Microsoft won’t have portables until at least I believe 2028. The successor is coming out next year and I feel like that’s basically three years head-start Nintendo will have. Sure both Sony and Microsoft have a ton of money and I could see them integrating things even deeper than previous generations as deep as they possibly can honestly. But still that much time and of course the steam deck not to mention other competing steam deck like products with steam OS on it. The market is gonna be very different in the next three years, by the end of 2028 when supposedly will be getting at least the PS five with the next generation Xbox I guess coming in 2026 possibly I feel like a lot can happen in that time. And seeing history, it definitely will.

Dang, would’ve been fuggin nice of Microsoft to have that “Xbox cloud save” feature a while ago. The Xbox/UWP and Steam versions of their games have incompatible saves last I checked, so I wasn’t able to share my Forza Horizon 5 progress. Kinda sucked.

I think Microsoft are in a very strong position but with a few caveats. The next hardware needs to be a handheld but not run Windows. They need a good solid Xbox OS and games should be able to be played locally on it rather than relying on cloud gaming. They also need to continue with "this is an Xbox" I regularly use my tablet with a backbone style controller to game on when kids are hogging the main TV. I also think that allowing Steam onto their handheld would be great as long as the games are also able to be played locally. You can currently play Xbox on steam handhelds by using the cloud gaming service. Switch that around to a local machine and you'll have a winner.

Redefining what it is to be an Xbox fan??? Did I ask to be redefined??? I was happy with how things were (which is broadly how Nintendo & Sony still define their gaming). I think their strategy is heavily based in Amazon Prime video - Amazon have an ecosystem/os that hosts its content first and foremost, they have that ecosystem on their own hardware (like fire sticks and fire tablets) but also make it available on other devices (Android, iPads, TVs, Roku etc.) so that success isn’t tied to their specific hardware sales, and they also allow other services to run on its hardware (Fire sticks can have Apple TV on it etc.). But that works for Amazon because of one reason - exclusive content. If nothing is exclusive, what is the driver for me to adopt xbox hardware or ecosystem?? Why not have a PS5 and wait for the next Halo to jump ship? Xbox is transitioning into this weird hybrid 3rd party/subscription provider/storefront model that is all about Game Pass and nothing else. I’ve a Series S but to be honest my kids just use it for playing Fortnite and that’s it. I’ve got a couple of very healthy Xbox 360 consoles (and some healthy PS3s) that I still have tons of fun on - I’ll just stick with them.

I think a lot of people get caught up in rumors and speculation, and it causes all the doom and gloom. Like, even Jez Corden has been wrong on multiple occasions, so it's all just talk until we actually see something. Just because Xbox puts a MachineGames title on PlayStation, doesn't automatically mean Halo is on PlayStation.

Funny enough what got me back to playing my Steamdeck constantly was a dock. I was noticing it would be dead a significant amount of time and it just didn’t have a home. It being charged now all of the time I tend to take it with me more often. Also when I get home getting to continue on my tv on the couch instead of at my desk where I just came from at work. Has gotten time to play far more often. Didn’t realize how much sitting at my desk was keeping me from playing games. Not sure if this will help your situation. Just wanted to share my revelation as it was not the solution I would have guessed if not for borrowing a dock try it out.

I am done with XBOX hardware my Series X is the last console by them I buy. I am all in with Sony and Nintendo going forward if they put their games on them I will play them, but not wasting my money on their hardware again. I get why they want to go multi-platform and I am fine with it, but I will play the games on PS5 going forward. I now buy all my games on PS5. My Series X is my backwards game box now. I may sell it soon too I have not decided it depends on how multiplatform they go if Halo goes to PS5 I am certainly done with Xbox.

From what i know is there gonna have games on other platforms but all there games content are connected to each other and mobile user are gonna get special verison of the games that support touch or gamepads controls while there official handheld does the same thing but the games are gonna be like normal games you will still have options to play your actual games from the xbox console but you gonna need gamepass subscription to stream those games but it's gonna be limited to supported games only
