In Grade 5 we learnt about Zambia, province by province, ethnic groups, economic activities, key cultural events etc. We even used to sing songs from all Provinces in the seven main languages of Zambia during music lessons.What have we done to our education to be producing such "blank" youngsters some of who seem to know nothing about a fellow African country, an influential one for that!! Worse still this, this is happening at a time when information is more easily accessible than in the past! The principal language being spoken in Zambia now is English; and thag is from nursery level going up! Pretty much everywhere you go, Zambians all speak in English. One one hand, it is good in the sense that anyone coming from abroad will be able to get by easily. And here is the but: I am a bit wary that our indigenous languages will go the way of the Dodo! My anecdotal evidence of this is based of the fact that I spent over 20 years living abroad and can still manage to speak my own language. Whereas, my younger nephews/nieces can not, and I mean, really not speak their own language because all they have heard from day 1 is just English. Should we be concerned or take it as a sign of the times and simply accept it as an immutable societal change?

I am hopeful, though, because of the work you and other youtubers are doing. Keep doing your thing. As we say in my country of origin "One, one dutty build dam" . I'm a Zambian and I've never been to Kenya except for an airport layover, but passionate about everything African. Off the top of my head: - Kenya is in east Africa and borders Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, and Ethiopia. - Jomo Kenyatta first president. William Ruto recently replaced Uhuru Kenyatta as president. - Many ethnic groups such as Agikuyu, Maasai, Somali, Luo, Luhya, Borana Oromo, Samburu, Kalejin etc. Lots of Indians. - Historically, many coastal city-states (Mombasa, Malindi etc.), - Swahili language is widely spoken. A Bantu language, with many loan words due to historic trade with Arabs, Indians, Persians, Chinese etc - Mainly Christian, with a sizeable Muslim population - Colonised by Britain, English official language - The Mau Mau, fought colonisation. - Many great athletes, especially long-distance running - Beautiful women, who apparently prefer white men - Kenyan cuisine is similar to Zambian, but also has Indian/Arab influences? - Great nightlife, and emerging "Nu Nairobi" musical scene, - Ayub Ogada, great traditional musician/instrumentalist who sang "Kothbiro" and "Obiero" - Great tourism, Wildlife Safari (Maasai Mara), Great rift valley? - 60 million population? - Smaller in size than Zambia - Best infrastructure in East Africa and Kenya Airways is great - Large slums in Nairobi? - Allegedly corrupt government, and amongst the highest paid ministers in Africa That's what comes to mind, I might have gotten some things wrong.😅

I'm Zambian I know some fun facts about kenya. Kenya has a deep culture where men and women are bald (heads with no hair). They drink animal blood especially that of cows while wearing red chitenge materials. Kenyans are dark in complexion, when it comes to running they're really fast. I think that's what I can say

Oh dear, what’s gone wrong across the river my fellow friends in Zambia, being at Uni and not knowing your borders and neighbours? We are joined at the hip; Zimbabweans, Malawians and Zambians are one people. If you carefully listen to Nyanja, Tonga and Shona, you can just about get the gist without having to learn either language. And what of the famous Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland(yes imposed l know) when we we a single country. What of the University college of Rhodesia and Nyasaland which still stands today? What of your ex president Mr Ruppiah Banda who was born and bred in Zimbabwe? I give up…

Am a Zambian living in Kenya and all the Kenyans I've interacted don't know know a thing about Zambia. I too didn't know about Kenya because we didn't learn about it in history or geography. In east Africa we only covered Tanzania, because it's Zambia's neighbouring country. I was impressed with what I saw when I came to Kenya, very hardworking and creative people, who make something out of nothing, geniuses and very very fast, I could go on and on.... But most of all Kenya's national anthem resonates with their way of life and commitment to defending their great nation and protecting it.

In today's world you can self educate thru the internet it's all about interest. But we are never just interested or have patriotism about the continent and it's pipo in totality.
@chongomukupa44672 жыл бұрын
Very true, that is the point! Instead of using the internet to gain useful knowledge they use it for downloading movies, posting tick tok clips, etc. University students who lack knowledge even on global and regional geostrategic issues can best be described as "uneducated literates"!

The Information that the Doctor student gave you, is what all of those that said they dont know about Kenya know. Infact they all could know more about Kenya more than the Doctor.But they went with the flow, Remember what the girl told you about the Tigress back at the Residences? Now pick the flow from there, UNZA students go with you pace or flow. They study you as you ask your question, by the time you finished asking they already ve 10 answers for you-they have a very high IQ. I think the guy you with briefed you about this but i dont think you took him serous. Revisit what he told you briefly cos thats what the University of Zambia in all about. In a nut shell.
