Born in Tijuana, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, but was deported to Mexico after years of service. There, he lived in The Bunker, the Deported Veteran Support House. After gaining his American citizenship, he has become an advocate for fellow veterans who have been deported.

Imagine if you moved from Mexico to Utah with your family when you were 12, then grew up Utah until you voluntarily joined the marine corps to serve at 18, and then when you’re almost at the end of your enlistment, you get unexpectedly deported to Tijuana Mexico, and you have the benefits that you earned in service taken away from you. Can you blame this guy for being upset about that situation? I’m a 10+ generation American, and I got unexpectedly sent to a separations division in navy bootcamp, and discharged out of that separations division for “fraudulent enlistment” as a direct result of listening to my recruiter when he had told me “just say no about that part” about one box on my medical questionnaire while I was sitting across from him at his desk. I had already given him medical and prescription records for this situation. He told me that they “lost some of my paperwork”, and that it would be better and easier if I just said no about it. I did what the man who was wearing the same uniform that I wanted to wear said was best, and I never thought twice about it. Meanwhile upon discharge, they’ll make you sign papers that literally remove all possible liability from the recruiters, even though they’re the ones that instructed the lie. Those papers are mandatory to sign if you’re getting discharged. If you don’t, you can be literally stuck in that same barracks for years. There were multiple guys stuck in that same barracks for well over a year. The institution is designed to protect itself at all costs, and to screw over the individual, even if the individual was instructed by the uniform-wearing men of said institution to make the mistake that the individual didn’t even know, realize, or understand was even a mistake to begin with.

I was born in South Korea and came to the United States when I was 5. I did it the right way. Became a resident alien and then a citizen and served my country for 12yrs. I still had to wait just like everyone else and I came from a allied country. I 100% agree with Borders. Ppl need to stop crying about this issue about taking the border down. Example. My mother in law and all of her extended family have been living here illegally from Mexico for the last 30 years. They had their anchor babies, never got their citizenship, and never learned English. They have never felt like they were in the shadows. In fact, they don’t feel the need to assimilate as there is such a large sub culture of illegal immigrants, services, banks, etc. that are made to service them. My wife has been the only one to assimilate and join in on American culture. Even her DACA siblings who came to America when they were babies either married freshly immigrated illegals or married people who overstayed their Visas. I honestly don’t have high hopes, expectations, or respect for what has essentially taken over California and other border states.

We do need a strong border for American sovereignty. We have influenced foreign nations and have participated in political coup d'etats. The worlds current reserve currency is still the USD. America still spends more on its military than any other country. In order for an "ordinary" tax paying citizen to come to any reasonable conclusion when weighing how much destabilization has effected mass migration to the United States, that citizen is blindfolded by the bottom 7th layer of Dante's Inferno since there is information non-disclosed that that they are intended not to know and will most likely never know. That being said, criminal organizations that have become basically a military should be taken very seriously. American politicians, policy makers, lobbyists, law enforcement and the intelligence agencies have a duty to protect American citizens. To prioritize anything else right now seems to be neglectful at best and a betrayal of law-abiding, merit seeking, tax paying citizens at worst.

Sometimes working within a system blinds you to how that system is used buy outside influences. What he was saying about the numbers at the border is a valid logical statement. Combining numbers serves to boost budget's. That's Fed 101 and everyone from the FBI to the DOD does the same thing. That's how you come up 22 billion dollars short on a Pentagon budget audit. What he is saying about the prison's using detention facilities and private prisons as interim holding facilities is valid also. In fact the last Governor now senator of Colorado, and Ohio legislated a law together that states private prisons are allowed to sue states for not keeping them at capacity. Colorado is a sanctuary city provider that also house's El Chapo in it's super max and was the first state to fully legalize pot. Which disrupted the cartel's business in the state, pushed them into meth, heroin, fentanyl etc. And there were businesses laundering money for the Sinaloa Cartel in a state where we have historically had a lot of migrant workers for farming etc. Maybe the better way to describe this guys perspective is through the lense of how Iran was supporting political plants and recruiting more fighters out of the pool of detainees in Iraq during that surge period from 2005 to 2008 or so. The reason why we had "heart's and minds" as a mission goal. Because the proxy enemy in that scenario was capitalizing on our mass detention of potential foreign fighters to radicalize people who might have only come there to take advantage of the wages we were paying contractors and day Laborers to do things on those massive fob's. In which case how those people feel about how they are classified matters allot if you're trying to ensure security through the peaceful cooperation of the people involved. I watched the short comings of our big picture mission in the middle east, then came home to Colorado and watched people from my age group who served there repeat the same mistakes as members of law enforcement in my state. So objectively, as a person who's been both places and lives as a regular citizen in one of them, I can see how countries like China may be acting by proxy in an effort to undermine us economically and security wise is at least partly a result of our country not learning the lessons we should have from our losses in a 20 year long middle eastern conflict. It's one of the only reasons i support properly classifying cartel soldiers as insurgents and their organizations as terrorist. Because people who work for cartel's by force because of proximity don't deserve to be classified the same as the people who run those organizations. We had a deck of cards for Iraq, we should have a deck of Cards for the cartels. And we need to immediately award citizenship to our deported soldiers to ensure they don't become radicalized because they've given up or get murdered because they refuse to. I'm not at all surprised that this guy feels the way he feels, and doesn't want to just talk about his story, because he's seen some shit that he knows needs discussion regardless of whether that rubs guys trying to do the best they can the wrong way. I think you should have him back on for a follow up interview and acknowledge that you understand he feels an obligation as someone who served in our military to present things he sees as potentially harmful in the broad sense. But for the purposes of journalistic story development you want to focus only on the who, what, when, where, why, and how of his journey from soldier to deported. His whole sitrep. I feel like I got the extremely brief version of the first half of his story because talking about it brought him to an emotional hot point where he didn't really want to talk about him anymore because it's to painful. I think most veterans can probably understand what just happened there.
