Uri Avnery, an Israeli initially supporting Zionism, changed his ideals after he learnt of the history you mentioned. And, he wrote an excellent article many years ago, which was very similar to this one. He passed away in 2018, championing living in harmony with the Arabs.

When I was growing up, we had Jewish and Christian neighbour's. We lived in 3 terraced houses. We as the children would always play together and we would help each other preparing our different celebrations. 1 family would go to nearest town to get Kosher meat once a week because there wasn't halal butcher. We would make sure everyone was doing fine. We would share so much, it was beautiful. Indeed miss those days.thank you so much for sharing this informative clip. God bless.

After the reconquista in Spain the Jews were kicked out after a few years. Jews lived happily amongst Egyptians until the Jewish state was formed and officers of the 1952 coup made life difficult for them, forcing all of them to emigrate.

Hi! In my humble opinion western Christianity and Judaism are based on false translations and political ambitions of power. Please check the work of Dr Fadil Ruba’ee “imagined Israel” and “Quds is not Jerusalem” who brings really plausible evidence that the origins of Judaism started in Yemen and not Palestine. He also believes Hebrew was from a family of ancient Arab languages. It really explained a lot for me about things in the Quran and the Torah that never made since in terms of geography and logic. The problem in Palestine is not about religion actually it is about imperialist colonialism. Ancient Jews are simply not all of today’s Jews. Alienating real European Jews from their homes was a problem created by Britain mainly in addition to the zionist movement later on. It is worth mentioning that when Zionism began the goal was to find a homeland for the suffering Jews. Later on the meth of the promised land was created and perpetuated to encourage European and later on Arab Jews to leave their homes and depopulate another’s land. They were intentionally kept in a situation where they’re not welcome anywhere and could never feel safe without the aid and military support of the west, thus becoming a tool.

Every honest Jew who knows the history of his people cannot but feel a deep sense of gratitude to Islam, which has protected the Jews for fifty generations, while the Christian world persecuted the Jews and tried many times "by the sword" to get them to abandon their faith. - "Muhammad's Sword" -by Uri Avnery, Jewish Israeli soldier, author, columnist. ... "The riots continued throughout Monday, June 2. During this time, many Muslims rose to defend their Jewish neighbors... " "We Jews from Islamic lands did not leave our ancestral homes because of any natural enmity between Jews and Muslims. And we Arabs-I say Arab because that is the language my wife and I still speak at home-we Arabs on numerous occasions have sought peace with the State of the Jews." - "Jews of Iraq" - by Naeim Giladi, former Zionist underground member.

The ottomans had a mixed history when it came to the Jews. Jews fleeing from Spain and Portugal did flee to the ottoman empire. But they also fled to parts of the Netherlands parts of the Italy North Africa and a very very very very very very small number fled to southern Ireland. In the 16th century there were actually some prominent Jewish families living in the Ottoman empire that left the Ottoman empire to settle in poland. Poland was actually quite hospitable to Jews for a while. Initially the Ottomans were quite tolerant and many Jews thrived albeit as a marginalized group with inferior rights. But that was deemed acceptable for Jews at that time and it was certainly Paradise in comparison to the parts of Europe they had escaped from. The tolerance that Jews enjoyed substantially decreased by the 19th century. As a matter of fact there was a traveler from Europe who settled in the Ottoman empire and went native and wrote about his travels through the Ottoman empire where he routinely saw Jews being abused by ottoman Muslims. Jews never gained the broad acceptance and full legal emancipation that they did at least for a while in France and the full legal emancipation in broad acceptance that they had received in England starting in the 1850s. Although they're still remained anti-Semitism and discrimination in those countries even with the level of broad acceptance that Jews in those countries received. Jews in the Ottoman empire actually looked towards much of Western Europe to improve their living conditions in the Ottoman empire

Another thing to highlight is that “ Dimmis” = “ people of contract or those non muslims living in a muslim state, if you look at the term used to describe them is enough , it means the people who have a contract of protection from Muslims or protected people. Using “ a second class citizen “ has a connotation that’s not relevant to Dimmis. Dimmis are being protected and non of them is forced to fight with muslims against their enemies; meaning that muslim soldiers died to protect those Dimmis. Second, Jyzyah is much less than Zakah that muslims pay. Dimmis who can’t pay Jyzyah were forgiven and the Muslim leaders paid on their behalf. Poor Dimmis were given money to live with from the muslim states. Any just person will not call that a second citizen. Dimmis are not allowed to rule muslims , simply because Islam has divine laws that none amongst muslims can change, those laws protects the rights of each party and preserves the superiority ( in ruling ) of those who follow the sound religion of the Creator. Others who don’t have divine laws are not trustworthy, because they may change their laws according to the change in their interests or environment. Thus, muslims and non muslims are equal before law , with preserving the legal rights of all non muslims. The weak non muslim is stronger before law than the strong muslim. One thing I noticed in western mentality is that even the most just persons amongst them are not brave enough to say the whole truth. May Allaah guide us all to the straight path.

Under the rule of the Roman Empire, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, which is the holiest site in Judaism, had been left in ruin and was even turned into a rubbish dump. The Romans would discard menstrual cloths and all kinds of filth at the site of the temple. This was as a result of prevailing attitudes in the Church towards Judaism. For the Church Fathers, the separation of the Jews from Jerusalem and the obliteration of any remnant of their Temple was seen as a divine retribution. For example, the 4th century Church Father Jerome (342-420) wrote of his satisfaction at the disappearance of the Jews who were considered the enemies of Christianity: *Until this very day, those hypocritical tenants are forbidden to come to Jerusalem, because of the murder of the prophets and the last of them: the Son of God, unless they come to weep, for then they are given permission to lament over the ruins of the city in exchange for a payment. Just as they purchased the blood of the Messiah, now they are purchasing their own tears; therefore, even the lamentation is not given them for naught.* *- Moshe Gil, A History of Palestine 634-1099, p. 69* This was until the Muslim army led by Umar bin Al-Khattab, the second Caliph of Islam, liberated the Holy Land from the Roman occupation. The 10th century Jewish polemicist and writer Salmon Ben Yeruhim comments: *As we know, the Temple remained in the hands of the Romans for more than 500 years and the Jews did not succeed in entering Jerusalem; and anyone who did and was recognised was put to death. But when the Romans left it, by the mercy of the God of Israel, the kingdom of Ishmael was victorious, Israel was permitted to come and to live.* *- Salmon Ben Yeruhim, see manuscript from the Firkovitch collection, II, No. 1345* For both Jewish and Christian inhabitants of the Holy Land, Islamic rule signalled the age of tolerance. It became a historical age where people of different beliefs lived in peace and harmony in Jerusalem. The leading biblical scholar Michael Coogan writes: *“Caliph Umar’s forces would neither massacre its inhabitants nor destroy the religious monuments of the vanquished”.* *- Michael D Coogan, The Oxford History of the Biblical World, 2003, p. 443* The 9th century patriarch Theodosius of Jerusalem wrote with regard to the Muslim treatment of Christians: *“The Saracens [i.e. the Muslims] show us great goodwill. They allow us to build our churches and to observe our own customs without hindrance”.* *- Christopher J. Walker, Islam and the West, p. 17* Under Muslim rule, the Jewish holy sites were restored. A Jewish chronicle of the time describes how the cleaning of the Temple Mount proceeded under the watchful eye of the Caliph Umar: *Taking part were all the Muslims in the city and in the district and participating with them were a group of Jews; afterwards they were ordered to evacuate the rubbish from the sanctuary and to clean it; and Umar watched them all the time. Whenever a remnant was revealed, he would ask the elders of the Jews about the rock, and one of the sages would mark out the boundaries of the place, until it was uncovered.* *- Moshe Gil, A History of Palestine, 634-1099, p. 71* Moreover the Jewish people were welcomed back into Jerusalem and lived in peace along with their Arab brethren. Daniel al-Qumusi, an eminent 9th century Jewish scholar, wrote the following: *For before he came they could not come to Jerusalem; and they would come from the four corners of the earth to Tiberias and Gaza to see the Temple; but now with his coming he brought them to Jerusalem and gave them place and many of the Israelites settled there; and afterwards people came from four corners of the earth to Jerusalem to preach and pray.* *- Moshe Gil, A History of Palestine, 634-1099, p. 69* There is even a writing known as Secrets of Rabbi Simon ben Yohai, a Jewish apocalypse of the 8th century which presents a Judaic messianic interpretation of the advent of Islam. It contains a positive endorsement of the mission of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and an affirmation of the divinely mandated role of the Arabs in saving the Jewish people from persecution: *When he saw the kingdom of Ishmael that was coming, he began to say: ‘Was it not enough, what the wicked kingdom of Edom did to us, but we must have the kingdom of Ishmael too?’ At once Metatron the prince of the countenance answered and said: ‘Do not fear, son of man, for the Holy One, blessed be He, only brings the kingdom of Ishmael in order to save you from this wickedness. He raises up over them a prophet according to his will and will conquer the land for them and they will come and restore it in greatness, and there will be great terror between them and the sons of Esau.’ Rabbi Simon answered and said: ‘How do we know that they are our salvation?’ He answered: ‘Did not the Prophet Isaiah say thus: “And he saw a troop with a pair of horsemen,* *- John C. Reeve, Trajectories in Near Eastern Apocalyptic: A Post Rabbinic Jewish Apocalypse, pp. 10 - 11* These statements provide a fascinating insight into an 8th century Rabbinic understanding of the Muslim conquests. What this demonstrate is that early Jewish scholars were open to the idea of a Prophet emerging from among the Arabs, and we can see that some even interpreted sections of Isaiah as prophecies that have been fulfilled by the arrival of Prophet Muhammad. To summarise, Islam not only liberated Arabs from the oppression but even their Jewish brethren. It is because Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is sent as a mercy not only to the Arabs but whole of mankind: َ *"And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." [Qur'an 21:107]*

Domestic violence laws would have to be rolled back, wouldn't they? Striking ones's wife, irrespective of how softly, isn't allowed nor the done thing any more in most countries where there is a backlog of folks wishing to migrate to. And likewise would the age of consent in such places have to be lowered to being...quite low? The Quran seemingly sanctions marriage to those "who are yet to have their monthy courses", as evidenced by the prescriptions for iddah. And if taking just the Quran as guidance good ol' 4:24 would mean "temporary marriage" would be on for all, not just the Shia and the (I think) minority of Sunni who still practise some form of it.

@@Jess-Truth what Quran wants us to do is everyone to behave in a good manner. children shouldn't be dating, no secret marriage should take place, no violence towards anyone including wives unless they break the law. the Quran never enforces anyone to get married at certain age. the prophet said no parent can force their daughters to marry if she does not give her consent....means she can say no if she is not interested in getting married.

Honestly, I'll give credit to the Christians of the Abyssinian Kingdom (today's Ethiopia) for providing shelters to the _shahabah_ who fled Mecca when the Quraysh pagan worshippers were very hostile towards The Prophet (pbbuh). The Byzantines (who were Orthodox Christians) also worth to be credited for their thrives against the Sassanid Persians, which effectively weakened the Quraysh political strength in Arabia.

@@saifm2409 First, you need to read history. There was actually a Christian kingdom in Ethiopia who provided a shelter for the _shahabah_ who just fled Mecca when the Quraysh were at the peak of their powers. We're not discussing the flaws within Christianity here, but we're discussing about what the Christians have historically done to the Muslims. And since everyone only mentions the bad things the Christians have ever committed (as I expected), for the sake of objectivity, I decided to point out the good things the Christians have ever committed as well because Islam itself supports the truth and is against ignorance. Your comment about Negus doesn't change the fact that there was indeed a group of good Christians who protected the Muslims from the Quraysh fascists. Second, you need to read *_QS. Ar-Rûm_* to learn why the Byzantines' victory over the Sassanids was a good news for the Muslims and a bad news for the Quraysh.
