To shorten a very long story. I ended up raising one of my nephews who had been abused. In the process of trying to make the kids life better I got him a computer and some games, including this one. We would play together as sort of a bonding experience. This turned out to be one of his favorites, and he was so good at it, I couldn't even come close... It was awesome for his confidence to be better than Uncle Joe at stuff, so I will always have a soft spot for this game.

Fun fact: Jen Taylor, the voice actress of Cortana in the Halo series, was the voice of the protagonist in No One Lives Forever. Cortana was originally supposed to be British, but it would have been too similar to No One Lives Forever, so Bungie scrapped that accent. Edit: Jen Taylor only voiced Cate Archer in the sequel, not the first game. Thanks for pointing that out.

I loved these games, and it's a crime they haven't been remastered some time. It is Austin Powers with a female protagonist for cripes sakes. And many memorable side characters. And the NPC dialogues, I remember just pausing my sneaking just to hear two guards complain about health and safety or in 2 how to poison an unfaithful boyfriend without leaving obvious marks.

I knew about the story but someone in another thread talked about why it hasn't happened, so I'll try to give them credit here: @sean8102 3 months ago From a article about nightdive trying to get the rights to do a remaster. "Fox seemingly wanted money up front to even look through their filing cabinets (which they'd repay if they found they had no rights), so when Night Dive said no to that generous offer, Fox responded by saying (and I paraphrase) "You can bet your bum we'll look in our filing cabinets for free if you start selling it." Activision just shrugged. And Warner? Well, those treats sent Night Dive a "scary letter", threatening to throw lawyers at them if they pursued re-releasing the game, despite the concurrent negotiations they were involved in. SIGH. Night Dive eventually managed to get the two parts of Warner to actually talk to each other, and sensibly ask themselves if they wanted to work out a licensing deal, which resulted in their saying... No."
