I like listening to you. My therapist is gently pushing me to a diagnosis. I'm leaning in the direction of getting one. Before I have watched the video, I can tell you I appreciate your perspective. I'm over 50 so listening to people with late diagnosis is helpful. And your hair is awesome.

Very informative. I said “ohmygod” out loud when you mentioned that an autism diagnosis can disqualify someone from citizenship applications to other countries. Like, what?? That is messed up on another level. I’d only get an official diagnosis if I needed it for a specific purpose, such as qualifying for accommodations, if I needed other medical/psychological assistance pertinent to autism, or to provide advocacy and assistance to others concerning autism. Like, my greatest contribution might be to show how autism can be missed due to my extensive, documented history with psychologists since I was five years old with no diagnosis for what was “wrong” with me. If I were to be evaluated now, it would close that book, so to speak. Personally, I wouldn’t do it just for validation that I have it. There are plenty of resources out there to learn about autism that are free to use without a diagnosis (thankfully). Anyway, thanks for this discussion. Gives some food for thought!

one thing i am thinking about, as i consider getting a diagnosis. The doctors etc who are ignorant about my self diagnosis, i feel will still be ignorant about my diagnosis. It will give my words more weight, but i worry that medical professionals wont treat me better with a diagnosis. I feel they will treat me differently, but still poorly. I would love to hear your or anyone elses anecdotes about this

I see, I've been doing it wrong. I always compliment your incredible eye makeup instead of your hair! 😂

Haha! I have recently been experimenting with my eye make up and it's super fun to get compliments on it, so no worries there! 😅🥰🥰

If you are undiagnosed and tell a doctors office that you are autiastic, how do they know if you have been diagnosed or not? Also if you get diagnosed but dont have it go through your insurance would it remain more private?

If you're self realized Autistic and tell a doc some will require proof or look through your records. Some won't check. I know some places will provide discreet evaluations. They won't be official, like if you needed ADA protection under the law, but often they'll be cheaper than an official diagnosis.

I need no diagnosis from a so called medical professional.
