I had a friend who was toxic to me and tried to make me feel bad about the one thing im proud of. My riding. She isnt my friend anymore. She told me that riding was easy, that the horse did all the work. I sat her on top of a horse and cantered circles around her while she sat on an older beginner horse walking around the arena. She even had the audacity to demand that SHE do all of that stuff because it was so easy. My instructor asked her to trot. She couldn't. By that point i was jumping and practicing getting my horse in frame, and she was extrememly frustrated. To this day i still grin at the memory.

From people sitting straight up in the saddle to perform an intricate dance to tiny people crouching in the stirrups, weighing to the point that the horse will barely feel them as it barrels down a track, these people live a life of danger but with passion. Then you have the daredevils and flying steeds that go over obstacles fearlessly and to the ones that slide to a halt within seconds and those that spin around a barrel in a certain pattern. Riders and horses take hours and hours of practice to perfect what they want to do. This costs money, time, effort, energy, patience, trust, and confidence to do what they are pursuing. It's an emotional roller coaster as well, for both horse, rider, and the entire team that's backing them up. Horseback riding isn't just a sport or a hobby for some people, it's a lifestyle for them. They made it part of their life. Even for those who do it for fun know that it's damn well hard to do and ain't easy in the slightest.

Horse riding is a sport do you not see me using leg muscle and having to keep my heels down trust me say that to my dead calves cause I practice 5 hours a day but let my horses rest a little I mean look at my pic I do dressage and jumping I’ve fallen off and gotten 6 concussions and broken bones many times I was competing in 2014 and my horse tripped on a cross country horse jump and I fell and my horse fell and got a sprained knee and I broke an arm and a ankle and also got a concussion my horses leg was cut up I got cut on my stomach and I had a super nasty fall it was nasty the medical team ran out and they had to hurry and rush me in and rush my horse into the vet I could’ve died

THANK YOU!! Equestrianism has been rated the most dangerous sport, OVER race car racing and other sports. One time, on the news, they had a whole discussion on how dangerous Equestrianism is, and all. I work, ride, and care for polo ponies, and those are the most stuck up horse you'll ever meet, because they are so valuable to the game, and they know it. Without them, there is no game, and they Lord it over you. I've been kicked multiple times, nipped, almost bitted on the face and shoulder, pushed, shoved, slammed. And they swing their head at you like a club. So, tell your brother to come down to the brandywine polo club, and I'll have him help me with my horses. See what he thinks then, and that's not even RIDING them!

@ceilingcat92026 жыл бұрын
+Sierra Samways Why? Before I started riding, I was a dancer for 10 years and the style of dance I did is actually very similar to competitive cheerleading, it is not hard and mistakes are almost always harmless. But in riding, I was once in a 9 day coma 3 years ago, and recently, on New Years, I broke both my legs going over a 1.40m jump and fell onto the concrete. (one leg had bone sticking out) and it was horrible. And the only serious injury I had in 10 years of dance was breaking my pinkie from doing an one of the most dangerous overhead lifts.

I agree with this. But from the way I see it you should never feel like you’re going to die, if you are truly an equestrian than you trust your horse with not only your performance but with your life. Yes I have been nervous about falling off before, but never that my horse would let me get hurt if it could stop it at all. Plus half of riding is being knowing that you are taking a risk, but still trusting your mount. Please don’t hate. It’s just my opinion.
@bumblebeeslimes56336 жыл бұрын
I love horses I am not hating. This MY opinion. The truth is you COULD die with one mistake whether you feel it or not. I trust my horse with my life but I still make conscious decisions like when he tears to lean forward because if I lean back I could die. Also I choose to wear a helmet. Like I said I trust him with my life, but you as an equestrian should always be cautious around a horse no matter how much you trust it. Like I said just my opinions

Silixia hey, I mean no harm and I’m just putting my opinion out here I really do mean no disrespect so please don’t come back and get mad at me for this. Here is my stance: Is horse back riding easy: Well fuck no. Is horse back riding a sport: Not Exactly Is horse back riding one of the easier “sports” to quickly pick up and be somewhat competent in: Yes Definitely Is horse back riding the hardest “sport”: well fuck no. Now the reason I say it’s not exactly a sport is because I think the term sport has become much more of an umbrella term. I think sports are things that are never or were never done in natural life that take precise skill athleticism and coordination. I think a lot of the people who run track or horseback ride do just really want to feel included with the sports and the things that most people care about paying attention to so this whole debate started. Am I saying it’s not in any way a sport? No. I’m saying it is an extremely general partial sport. Does that mean I’m saying it’s easy? Well again, fuck no. Again, I just really wanted to put my opinion out here, I don’t want this to start some crazy people yelling at me or getting angry debate. I just want to see what people think of what I say. So please, I beg of you, this is absolutely nothing personal, it’s just a friendly argument/ debate I’d like to take part in. Thank you for your time and thank you so much for reading this, Sean.

To be honest I always knew it was very dangerous to ride a horse and you need to practise nearly five hours a day That is why I really love horse riders AND I SWEAR TO GOD WHO EVER SAYS ITS NOT A SPORT THEY CAN GO TRY FOR THEM SELVES (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ

Then I'm like "Well you see you do football and all you do is kick a ball around and actually when trotting your going up and down and when jumping you are folding and when galloping you are not sitting down sooo.... and anyway you don't go to football anymore so at least I'm doing a sport instead of on my phone all day" My older sister -speechless-

It is easy to steer, walk, trot, canter, but thats only a fraction of what sport horses and riders have to do. The jumps, the training, the muscle development, the slight points of pressure and communication. I can ride, but could never do competitions.

Exactly. They say all we do is sit there but the real "sitting there" tlak about car racing, and yet it's very famous. Cars you can fix the engine and program it the way you want. Horse is a breathing animal. An unpredictable one. It's all about the bond and trust.

@@gvmmy_bear I've ridden horses before ;There's this beach where I live that they take the racehorses to exercise and if your lucky enough you'll get a chance to ride them! I remember my first time on one of their backs (I think his name was Garnet) and I couldn't stop hugging him! Just the feeling of being on such a large and wonderful creature's back is awesome! I've always wanted to do dressage (I really like dressage )with my very own horse! But I doubt I'll ever be able to ride.. Horses aren't the easiest animals to take care of.. And to do riding would take a lot of time dedication and practice. Not to mention I have school work, my parents are busy, and there aren't even lots of stables I can board or learn Lessons. Guess those dreams won't come true. But anyway, what event do you do?
@gvmmy_bear4 жыл бұрын
Søfï Crëst Show jumping! I’ve always loved show jumping, and have been in some show jumping events! And, when your older maybe you could take lessons when you can drive! Dressage is a really cool event, if I didn’t do show jumping, dressage or cross country would be my second option. I bet if you ever do end up riding horses, you’ll be really good at dressage!

Am I the only one who gets into these situations 99.9% of the time?? And has anyone else gotten into a situation where people ask "what sport do you PLAY?" And you don't want to answer because your an equestrian and we don't PLAY, we work our asses off to be the best we can, in other sports you have a chance of getting a broken bone, concussion, or mild injuries like that. But equestrians could snap their neck, get crushed, or even trampled. Bucked, thrown, or even fall- and we still get back in the saddle. In my opinion we don't PLAY a sport we WORK at a sport!🐎

To support your comment, I would like to put out that in 2015, a horse bolted and I fell onto some rocks as we were hacking on a rocky area, In result I was in a coma for 2 weeks. Recently, at New Years 2018, I had another dangerous fall and broke both my legs, (on one leg the bone was sticking out of my skin) Horse falls may sometimes be harmless but when you try a difficult horse, any danger can happen. I would also like to put out for no reason. Football isn't a proper sport, it is a game.
