That's the thing about game mechanics, some of them that aren't absolutely necessary, if you don't use them from the very beginning of the game, you might not ever get into a habit of using them, and you can go through the entire game without using some game changing abilities. I always try to make sure I'm cycling through everything available to me from the start, sometimes I still fail at that, but I'm going to make an extra effort to do that in this game.

i actually think the lore being tied behind the stat requirements for magic is such an interesting idea, seems like they really want to cement this world as a very tangible place. as much as it sucks to have to level so high to read it, it makes sense in the universe of the game. great video! i have to say its one of the most concise and informative deep dives ive seen on it recently. :D subbed!

I'm on an 8 core amd, 3060ti, pretty damn decent - I'm getting solid 60 fps 1440p at all high settings and with cpu temps only around 80 degrees - 20 seconds of stutter loading the very first area, but apart from that has been super smooth, no crashing, lots of dying lol I'm REALLY loving this game, it's scratching my darksouls itch so damn hard, the enemies are crazy aggressive and punishing, and it's a lot of fun exploring the 2 different worlds + umbral is low key creepy af - I love it, I love it, I love it, who knows if the combat will get much better, or the magic etc etc it's the studio's first game and they've captured a darksouls feel REAALLLL nice imo I'm super happy to play it, and I hope they have good success with this so we get more like it - btw haven't been doing online play cos jeenine/steelovsky both said it's pretty broken, hopefully hexworks can get it fixed cos they got a reaaalllll nice game here

I tried several of the Souls games hoping I would like one. I finally learned my lesson and realized they're all the same. I don't play to get frustrated. I play to have fun and relax.... and being constantly frustrated is not fun. I am having a lot of fun with the new Assassin's Creed game. It has a nice mixture of challenge that is fun and rewarding.

I read the title as "Why you shouldn't buy Lords of the Fallen." I just kept waiting for whatever that 'big deal breaker' would be, in spite of the praise being showered upon it. Glad to see there isn't some glaring problem with the game, that "isn't what I expected." I have a few concerns about the combat, namely the way that attacking with combos pushes you pretty far forward. I've seen a few players die to gravity many times because of this, people I consider far more skilled than I am. It's not like Souls games didn't do this, it just looks like Lords ups the distance. You almost have to stop the part of your brain that's telling you you're playing a Souls game in order to adapt, but then there are so many visual cues that are like, "we got this from Souls! :)"

There is zero animation cancelling in the game which could be what you're noticing. Once you start an attack, you are locked in the animation and can't even roll out of it which is unlike 90% of souls like. It's good game design IMO because it forces the player to be thoughtful & concise with their combo. Fights become dynamic as you choose between light attacks or a risky heavy attack to potential stagger the enemy for a critical strike

Well, I'm gonna try this. I just hope it's not so damn hard that it takes the fun out of it. From the very first images I saw of this game, a few months ago, ESPECIALLY The Dark Crusader, I was hooked! It really does look awesome. Most Souls-Borne games are known for being notoriously difficult, with a lot of emphasis on trial and error, meaning youre going to die, a lot. But the cool twist with LOTF is that technically you have 2 lives, when you die in the real world you continue in Umbral the land of the dead, giving you almost a second shot at killing or beating whatever part bested you, because of this i feel LOTF is notoriously difficult compared to other souls games like Elden ring or Bloodborne

30 hours into it right now. It's really not that much harder if you use the mechanics it gives you. People are frequently just chilling in Umbral and then review bombing the game due to "enemy density" despite the game explaining this will happen the longer you stay in because it's LITERALLY hell lol. It adds some very fun chase sequences. Normal enemy density is fine and way more fair HP wise than a game like Lies of P. Bosses are equally so and immensely more like traditional souls bosses (mainly Pontiff Sulyvahn and Morgott if you're familiar) where blocking and dodging are viable but you can set rely on one if you want.

Man my first souls game was Elden Ring. Sekiro was too hard for me, but Elden Ring gave me enough freedom to figure stuff out. There are build paths you can take that make it easier for beginners to progress, and high risk reward builds you run with later. You don’t HAVE to kill a boss immediately to proceed, you can go farm smaller ones to build your character up first. Not to mention there is so much to discover and explore in the massive open world. I stumbled across areas I didn’t even know could exist. Just an absolute master piece. After you beat this game you need to get it. I truly believe Elden Ring could be game of the decade. You can just tell Elden Ring is a passion project.

If this one is anything like the first Lords of the Fallen, then I think it’ll be a good game. Lords of the Fallen from 2014 was a really fun game and was decently flushed out. Definitely do more research if you’re on the fence, but I think it’ll be a good game. But I get where you’re coming from, I preordered Diablo 4.

@@Katie-vv6ff it doesn't, because this isn't elden ring. lore wise that made sense for elden ring, it doesn't here. the radiant isn't in control of umbral. neither is inferno. it's a separate thing. that's why it takes both "magic" stats to use umbral stuff. the good, and the bad, in order to access the in-between. also, even though it made sense lore wise in elden ring, it was also really bad gaming wise to give like 10 different types of magic to one stat. it was honestly the worst magic system fromsoft has made.

@@Katie-vv6ff it makes sense for how many controls they have, adding weapon swapping isn't feasable for controller, and souls-likes tend to be designed for controllers first, but i do agree that having only 1 weapon at a time is more challenging. the menus also seem less "quick action-y" than fromsofts menus. i personally like it, cause it makes all the choices you make feel more important, including planning ahead, but i can see why other people wouldn't, it doesn't allow as much reaction, and punishes you more for your mistakes.

@DLiMiT973 I found the most difficult to be Sekiro then followed by Bloodborne. I'd probably compare the difficulty of this game more to Elden Ring with a tad bit more difficulty. But the 2 lives could also make it easier at the same time. Best comparison I'd say. So a 7 out of 10.

I honestly think it hits a really nice middle ground of being very challenging without being unfair, I'd say harder than elden ring, but easier than Sekiro. Maybe on par with bloodborne
