One of the other great benefits of a dropper on a fat bike is how much easier it is to put the bike inside of a car, suv or truck. Even if the bike doesn't have internal dropper routing to can get external routed droppers that work great from companies like PNW, KS and more. I just updated my trusty 2012 Fatback from 2x10 to 1x11 Deore 5100 for less than $150 all in and I am super pleased so far. There are still lots of older fat bikes running qr wheels without any problems,but it makes upgrading wheels a challenge if that's something you want to do.

I scooped up some leftovers in '18. A '16 Beargrease for the wife and a '16 Mukluk for me. They got the benefits of trickle down economics and hers got better tires, an upgrade from cable discs, better drivetrain and all new contact points. I went to a brake upgrade, GX 1x12, a dropper and 4.8x26 tires. Best bikes ever! 👍🏼

my other critique of the walmart route is once you start upgrading stuff. You'll most likely be left with just a frame, maybe wheels if you get wheels that actually have an hg freehub body.

Gave my 2013 Salsa Mukluk to my son-in-law and bought a Canyon Dude. Was considering the Salsa Beargrease but that price point on the Canyon was a no brainer. Used the Mukluk for getting the trail work done and was an all around great bike. Had to keep it in the family. Wish I could have got a hold of the Salsa Blackborrow when they came out. Perfect set up for chainsaw work with that big rack out back. 😒

Thank you for your great video. I am trying to decide between a mukluk at £1800 and a Kona Wo at £1,100 [a tempting deal]. I do trail riding and adventure biking. Any advice appreciated - many thanks - from England.

I personally think the Mukluk, now called the Heyday, is a better bike. The geometry is dialed.

I've still never even tried a full squish bike. Fatbiking is all I know lol. My first fatbike was a Framed Minnesota 2.2 with quick release in the rear. I wish I'd have gotten thru axle but I still have the bike and ride it. Have you ever thought about trying the suspension droppers that PNW offers? Thanks for sharing this video!

I have never wanted a suspension seat post. If the terrain gets rough I don't want to be seated, I stand up and allow my legs to absorb the bumps. I do the same thing on a full suspension bike. Having a seat go up and down would rob me of seated pedalling power. I have seen suspension seat posts on commuter bikes, but for mountain biking it doesn't make sense to me. If a rider remains seated most of the time I can see why they might want one.

My Farley 9.8 is a tad over 26lbs with 27.5x4.5 Barbs then with studded Gnarwhals it goes up to 7.3lbs. 40lbs is insane.

I think Surly's sale goes till 12/11. I was thinking of picking up the ICT frame and build a lightweight version, around 30lbs.

Does the Heyday have an alloy or carbon fork? Was thinking alloy for some reason.
