100% this. The best performers are those who support/promote others while still promoting themselves. It's not really a competition. If anything, it's co-opertainment (TM pending). If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. The best collaborate, cooperate, support, and cross-promote. They bring diverse audiences together. They blend, they stir, they make sweet, sweet...daiquiris. or something like that. Jacques is one of these lovely performers and human beings.

"hit the digital lottery", there is lots of people on youtube that "hit the digital lottery" but jacques isnt one of them in my opinion, dude has put an obscene amount of work into his craft and its just paying off in the digital world because of how many people have access to see his show. This is just an example of putting in the work and getting the rewards in return. I think everyone is impressed with the quality of his shows and the joy he brings to audiences.

My home faire is Bristol in southern Wisconsin and I've been to the Shakopee faire in Minnesota, patron and former employee at both. Other things to consider when thinking about working at these places are your own physical, mental, and emotional limits. I worked at a booth called Candlelight Rocks for a number of years and it was exhausting even for just two faires. I could only imagine the fortitude of people rotating their time between even more. You get to the fairgrounds early, stay late, and either sleep there in the back campgrounds or somewhere nearby, doing the whole thing over again the next morning. You are in close proximity to a lot of people all day, are in costume, and in character if you chose to make one. I enjoyed my time there for the most part and I sometimes think about trying again, but it's not on my immediate list at the moment. Good luck to those who want that life!

What you are saying is not untrue. However the booth you worked in was retail. Retail is hard - in any locale. Performers have challenges but not in the ways you are speaking. They have schedules - on stage & off They float to support other performers and do joint acts on occasion. They are in character from open to close but not standing in a booth with non-stop foot traffic.

Genuinely appreciate your insights. A few of my friends have seen how I "come alive" at Ren Faires, and have suggested I try to put together an act; something I've always looked at as "good fodder for great daydreams." But, when I break it down into the 3 pillars idea, it seems somehow a lot less impossible. Will I ever actually do it? Probably not for some time. But, having someone say "Hey, don't look at it that way, reframe it this way!" makes it a lot easier to think about. Thanks again for your words of advice! Hope to see you someday here in Vegas 😄

Very distracted by the cat, had to rewatch cause I noticed he had changed position and I hadn't seen him move, good job getting the views up Scipio 😂 The advice is 11/10 though, and I think it can be applied to content creation in general, if you want to build an audience, character, comedy and skill are definitely the pillars !

Jack, I’d love to hear you speak more about the way you incorporate music into your act. For example, when the audience requests a song, are you always making up the lyrics on the spot, or do you have some prepared for the most popular (and likely) songs that people will ask for? I guess I mean, how improvisational is your performance, really? Do you have certain themes that you try to stick with for your song parodies? Have you always been musical, and did you have to learn how to sing, or were you naturally good at it? Do you play any musical instruments? I really enjoy when you sit down and talk to us.

I have nothing to add to what to do to HAVE a ren faire act. What I can tell you is something NOT to do.... Years ago at King Richards Faire in Carver, MA, there was a man & woman act (I can't remember what they did...hey, I'm 61, I feel lucky I remembered to watch this video). I saw their act at the end of the day & at the end of the act the woman made an announcement that the man had just then (not earlier that day; not that week; not that year...minutes ago) asked her to marry him, with some story that went with it. Naturally everyone watching was happy for them & practically forced money on them as congratulations, myself included. A weekend or two later I went back, hell, I lived in Carver so since the first time was free (not sure now but back then the opening day of KRF was free for Carver residents), & let's be honest, there isn't much to do in Carver. As I was walking around I saw the same act give the same song & dance (pun definitely intended) with the same result from the audience. I couldn't believe it. I made a point to catch their next show & again..."I just got proposed to" "money money money". The final result...when other acts found out what they were doing they were ostracized & when management became aware of what they were doing management either kicked them out or didn't ask them back for next season...it was one or the other but I can't remember which. To sum it up... DO NOT SCAM YOUR AUDIENCE! I guess that would've been a lot faster to say but I felt the story was needed 😁 I had a cousin who was a jouster (for years, this will be the first year he won't be there, he had to quit unfortunately). And I have 2 daughters who started working at Moresca's (best place to buy your clothing btw) the next year so I have no doubt the story is accurate.

Character is by far the most important in my opinion. take whippers since well yeah, ive seen a few but most dont really seem all that different and its always some little character thing that sticks in your head for me its the whipper in a rat mask that i saw in idk 02 or so that comes to mind. people remember the small things even when they don't remember a name

I so agree. I've seen Adam Crack. I thought his show was boring. He is great at cracking whips, but not much else was going on besides harmonica playing. My daughter can chew! Watch her eat an egg! Watch her eat some fruit! Watch her eat a donut! She also whistles! I don't think we'll sell many tickets. Jack found an excellent character. I've paid to see him in St Louis and Chicago bars and paid to watch his streaming shows from Boston. Adam excels at Jack's weakest pillar but Jack has the superior show.

I've never seen your show in person (though if I ever see you on the roster when I'm at a fair I'll certainly change that) But all three of your points are things I've noticed about the danger committee, to shout them out as another good example. Like it's one thing to throw knives and clubby things, but it's another to be composing poetry while you're doing that. You've got a lot of good things going for you, keep it up!

First up, great channel. Second, GREAT look, for really the look is 70% of it and you have it. Third GREAT attitude. Attitude is of course 90% of it and your wit and reverence nail it as well! (I don't do math) Now my story. So growing up as a teen I worked with my Dad some in the Summers treasure hunting (yep hunting for sunken Spanish galleons in the Caribbean and around Florida. One year we hired a diver who was really good with whips. Brought the whips a few times. Did the "match stick", did the "newspaper" all the regular stuff, it was cool. One day he had the whips and was telling everyone how he would whip the head off a matchstick WHILE someone held it. No on would do it, no WAY! Cept the moron 16yr old. So there I was, held the match and you guessed it, he missed. Cracked the whip right across the knuckle of my thumb. Won't ever forget that pain! And thats my funny whip story.
