I'm a half Crimean Tatar myself, and as I played the civ more and more, I fell in love with it. Good CA, solid UU, generalist eco bonus, siege ram and of course, flaming camels for memes. Cheers!

The nice part about AoE is, despite the civs all drawing from the same unit pool, we all somehow manage to find 'our' civ. Whether a versatile civ like Byzantines or Chinese, or a specialist civ like Franks or Mongols, or even just one that represents our nationality, there seems to be one for everyone.

@@BlueShellshock I would like to get into AoE and the thing that convinced me to is the fact that this game allows to have fun even without following the meta (if there even is a clear meta). It just sound so compelling to stick to one civ despite it not being the best one and still have fun.

You mentioned that bombard tower is a good late-game option. I've never actually seen a bombard tower built ever, by any civ in any game. What's the actual point of that building? Is this something worth doing a video on? What would be the scenario where bombard tower is a good choice? In that scenario, why wouldn't keep be a better choice? Would you ever use keep over bombard tower? Tbh beyond the tower rush strategy, I never see towers built, very rarely even guard towers are considered. What's up with that?

everything has its niche, even bombar towers. In very long black forest games, you can spam bombard towers since they cost no pop space. They are also great in FFA. Koreans can build them without researching the upgrade, you see them rarely even in 1v1s. Besides these situations they don't have many uses

Bbc is the best against onagers. Redemption is difficult aswell imo. Otherwise use melee cav, own onager, excessive micro, or what I like best: Win before the opponent gets to SO use mobility to outmaneuver his slow siege. :-D

When playing Tatars against meso civs I seem to get rekt every time by mass eagles. What is the best way to counter? Tartars have no champion and no chain or plate infantry armour so their 2h swordsmen get destroyed by mass eagles. The only way I've gotten a chance was to deny their gold early but if that fails its kind of gg

@teddyhaines6613 2 жыл бұрын
I think that's another situation in which you need both knights and crossbows, the latter to snipe any pikes or monks that come out while the knights kill the eagles. And generally try to win before Imperial Age and Elite Eagle Warrior.
@zachariastsampasidis8880
@zachariastsampasidis8880 2 жыл бұрын
The lack of the defence upgrades only really matters in Imperial. Long swords still handle castle age eagles handily and arguably even in early imp if you have solid food economy. You arguably only need a meat shield for your cav archers which could be hussars or some keshiks
@muhammetemredurmus
@muhammetemredurmus 2 жыл бұрын
@@zachariastsampasidis8880 keshiks also possible like you said, and hussar spams could help for monks and possible raids, depending on amount. With small groups, i think scorps and light cav is best cost effective combination.

This boom style meta is suitable for the new Tatars, however is it really how to play Tatars? 4tc+ boom into a post-imp hussars wars is too generic.
@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421
@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421 2 жыл бұрын
Understandable critique. There have been a few entries in this video series that don't appear to emphasize the "unique strengths" of the civs being featured. Few to no unique units, little showcasing of certain civ bonuses, or whatever else that doesn't seem to distinguish enough the civ being played as anything more than a vessel for "generic" play patterns. That being said, it should be noted that during the gameplay and analysis of the civ match being featured, decisions made are being highlighted as a consequence of knowing how the civ plays best in its current phase of the match, against its given opponent, as well as decisions being made based on predicting how they should ideally play out. In essence that is exactly what a "how to play" would want to feature- the best courses of action to take based on the strengths and weaknesses of the civ.
@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421
@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421 2 жыл бұрын
@AlHasan Sameh Sure, that's very understandable. My comment supports that explanation even more then, because I'm implying that Hera is featuring how a game is winnable with a civ without having the opponent give you the chance to mass 50 war elephants and have no response to it, or pick an island map and fail to stop you before feitorias overwhelm the opponent's economy. Just because a civ's bonuses encourage or discourage certain strategies doesn't mean you'll lose for it. Celts Paladins anyone?
@ThisIsMyRoad
@ThisIsMyRoad 2 жыл бұрын
@@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421 Indeed, I appreciate Hera very much, however, he is a victim of this current meta like most other pro's. Every game leads into 4tc boom, nothing unique nor edgy. Imagine seeing Unique Units as a crucial component of the win condition, or you know what, just a casual 1tc play, like they did 2 years ago with a "Fast"ish Imp Arbs. Strategically AOE is at its shallowest point.
@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421
@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThisIsMyRoad I know exactly what you mean, and at that point it's a different conversation. I remember watching a 2v2 event before RedBull Wololo V, and then it sank in that every team, every round, was playing the exact same way. Choose an "archer civ", choose a "knight civ" then try to use knights to kill archers while archers try to kill everything. For someone that came to watch a game with "37 unique civilizations" I kind of only saw 2 being played over and over identically. That might excite fans of the game, and it might be a meta that pros can play with a "another day another dollar" mentality, but it was not my particular favorite watching experience. Who knows what it is that makes people who play the game at a competitive level stick with it (I can think of a few possibilities), or what makes spectators who likely will never play the game at the same level enjoy watching it as they do (also a few reasons I can think). I don't know how volatile changing fundamental aspects of the game are after being around for 20 years. I would imagine after that, "basic truths" would come out, such as a general meta that doesn't really get upended by unique civ bonuses or whatever. Would pros stop playing the game, just because of it? Whould fans or enthusiasts stop watching it because of the pattern changes in? Probably not. Which I think is why AoE4 is taking such a conservative approach towards the initial number of civs in the game. They wanted to focus on a game that allows for players, and spectators alike, to identify how every civ you pick looks, feels, and plays unique, and not basically a repeat spectacle of death balls colliding between archer civ, knight civ, and slightly worse archer/knight civ reskins. We'll see how that plays out though.
@ThisIsMyRoad
@ThisIsMyRoad 2 жыл бұрын
@@baranpourtahmaseb-sasi1421 You have to be really optimistic to think that AOE 4 will evolve to be an Esport that'll have spectators to the degree of AOE 2 :) You're right about 2v2's, its a dead format, AOE 2 TG's are the least diverse. And therefore least strategic. Regarding the overall meta, it wasn't like that 2 years ago, games were unpredictable, it could be anything, tower rush, castle drops, Siege pike, FC, FI, and a lot of unique units. These days you cant even afford Plumes Archers which are considered a great unit. It all began when Developers messed up with the balance of the game, mostly: nerfing tower rush + tiny woodlines on DE Arabia (and pretty much all open maps), things we didnt have in AOC/Voobly. That's very fixable, reversable, obviously pro players prefer the current situation, stability benefits the strong ones. They dont want new inovative minds in the scene, with unexpected strats, like Hoang, they prefer it simple and predictable, mirror-strats, where all they need to do is to just pull it off more efficiently than the opponent.

"Units deal +25% damage when fighting from higher elevation - so it basicaly doubles the damage" I dont think math works like that xD A unit with X damage deals 125% of X from higher elevation with a generic civ and Tatar player would deal 125% of this 1.25X - in other words Tatars deal 156.25% of X from uphil while generic civ deals 125%. Double of that would be 250%..

@@moon2schyzo Because you also forget about defense bonus being constant, this way you can easily double or triple your actual damage with a 25% attack bonus since it wont be absorbed by the opponent defense which is not linear
