Not to cast disparity here but timing is everything in life. I literally, bought the equipment from a winery that was defunct, converted a two apartment carriage house into my winery, made the building more secure etc, had a decade of experience with wine making and paid for my application. 911 happened a month later, i heard nothing until 6 months later i was told that all applications were on hold as the ATF was under homeland security. I had already lost my rental income from the building when i decided to convert it, and now after purchasing all the equipment etc could no longer just hand out and wait. I was able to sell the equipment for a small profit as i bought it at an auction but overall was devastated about what happened as my dream was ruined. Anyway, it's been decades since then and i'm happy to say i may look into this again but not as a winery but distillery. Thanks for the good video! tom

There is no way on earth that I could set up a distillery, but I would truly LOVE to operate a fine column still like that one. I have been tempted for years to purchase a column still just to play with, but the wife and the law seem to believe that's a bad idea. That one is a real beauty!. I see this was posted a couple of years ago. I hope things have worked out well for you.

Great info, love the dragon still. A piece of art. Thanks for touching on the legal side. Might be nice to hear rough cost of starting his distillery. What the dream costs to become reality.👍

Including equipment, fees, meeting federal, state and local codes & repeated inspections during the start up process, you can confidently assume $300K-$500K.

So are you going with rum gin or vodka and as that sells you will make whiskey? And with this still whats the volume your aiming for. Wish you luck and success.

Just a thought I think mashing off the grain is a mistake you’ll lose a lot of flavor and alcohol content. Plus defeats the purpose of a Bran-Marie type still. All distillery’s distill on the grain for that reason. Best of luck man I hope the best for you!
