Just found your channel and am really enjoying it! One question about your rabbit tractors- do they have any wire flooring at all?
@gooseberrybridgefarm Жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, our tractors have a wire floor - generally we use 2x4 welded wire. It keeps the rabbits from digging out, and in the event that the tractor gets flipped by a predator, it keeps them safe. Once we had dogs attack in the night and one of our tractors was flipped over and the wire was bent and damaged, but they never got to the rabbit!

The seed dahlias also develop tubers, and then you can dig that up.

yes, which is torture - I've since given up planting dahlias all together because planting and digging up tubers is too much work for a you-pick farm

My Mexican sunflowers have been blooming a loooooong time this summer. I think deadheading the flowers is helping.
@gooseberrybridgefarm3 жыл бұрын
Mine are blooming like crazy too! Dead heading is very helpful - but if you miss some the finch love to eat the seeds!

@@gooseberrybridgefarm I only have one which I have been pretty careful about deadheading as I am mostly into growing native plants and was gifted this plant (im the plant guy that gets plant gifts from everyone haha). So I have been deadheading as soon as the petals start to go. I was worried about it spreading which I am not sure if its a concern here or not but better safe than sorry for my own piece of mind. By comparison, mine is much larger with many more flowers than the one growing further south closer to the native range by the person that gifted it to me. Its pretty comical actually how much better ours is doing. Have you happened to notice if yours is spreading by seed? I hate growing non-native but I have to say, I LOVE these flowers. Almost as much as the bees and hummingbirds do.

I have grown them for years and never had them get as big as they are this year! When I’ve just grown 1-2 plants I’ve never had them spread from seeds - even with almost no dead heading - last year I grew 30 in a small area and I have 1-2 that came up from seed in that area, and those volunteers haven’t even bloomed yet .. I didn’t even have any that came up in the compost pile (lots of other flowers came up there despite the compost being in the chicken yard 😅) I need to post an update that shows just how big they are in my pollinator gardens! It’s crazy!

I have a technical question. Do you have customers sign a waiver or release form so your not held accountable if they get hurt on your farm? I have heard of other u-pick farms that have Thier customers sign a waiver or release (not sure what it's called). I want to do a u-pick flower and herb farm and since we live near a university there will likely be alot of young date groups and young families who are likely to come out but I don't want to get sued if an accident was to occure. Also, do you carry extra insurance that covers having customers on your property. If so would you be able to address this in a reply or a video sometime?
@gooseberrybridgefarm Жыл бұрын
All good questions! The biggest question to ask is about your state's agri tourism laws. We are in Missouri, and our state has legislation in place that protects registered agri tourism venues (as we are) from liability in many circumstances. Having customers sign a waiver is of questionable value. We do have some extra insurance, but rely heavily on the legal protections that are in place.

I can’t tell for sure, but are your rabbits in a fenced in area? I think you said they were. I love the design just scared of predators.
@gooseberrybridgefarm3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! We keep them generally in movable tractors, so they are protected but always on grass.
