Yes! I think that's a better way to go, and manipulative, a mother manipulating her daughter... it makes the high Fs tinged with sarcasm and menace which makes more sense out of them than the very blunt aggressive interpretations of this aria.

I mean she just has been degraded by her dead husband in his testament for the most stupid reason ever. She has every reason to be super angry. But it's awesome to see how a good performer can give the same piece a very different interpretation that also fits pretty well. and I just realised that it makes obviously no sense to call another performance anyone of us heard the original. What I meant when I used the word original is the performance of Diana Damrau

And then there’s this passive-aggressive “I’ll be forever disappointed in you” angry way. So I think she was expressing anger in the way she was raised in.

That’s because they have a special training in say vowels practice. Either in acting or singing one word get slur in the tongue twister test they’ll have point deducted. My mom also a Chinese opera singer. Singing is speaking through music. Make sure each word is clear so it won’t combine into the music.

What an amazing voice. I had the incredibly good fortune of hearing Ms Park sing this aria live in 2019. I immediately bought tickets for her upcoming performance at The Metropolitan Opera on January 4, 2020, even though I live in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, she fell ill and had to cancel. I still hope to see her perform this aria again some day.
