From Soalheiro's Cellar of Innovation, winemaker Luís Cerdeira and a person in charge of the winery, Lúcia Barbosa, introduce us the main trials that are being carried out at the Research, Development and Innovation Center (RDI) of the first brand of Alvarinho from Melgaço A space for those who have ideas, for those who create, for those who want to make different wines.
Soalheiro's RDI Center is the first in Portugal, in Vinhos Verdes and in Monção and Melgaço region, to obtain this RD + I certification by the regulation NP 4457. A commitment to the development of new products and new processes around the potential of the Portuguese territory by excellence where they are located, Monção and Melgaço, focusing on quality and social, economic, and environmental sustainability. One of the differentiating factors is the bet on knowledge sharing which will enable differentiation in a sustainable way.
In this video you will have an opportunity to understand what is done here. Of the main differences in fermentation in eggs, terracotta or "tinajas", some experiences such as the creation of an exclusive Alvarinho wine derived from ungrafted vines, a trial based on fermentation lees or an Alvarone (an Alvarinho made as the Amarone ). But innovation does not stop there. Currently, there are 14 ongoing RDI projects in the three areas of activity: Environmental, Infusions and Wine.
