Just finished up this morning! Thanks for such clear, concise directions! I only had beef suet, but the whole process worked just like this. Waiting for mine to cool now. God bless you! New subscriber now. ❤️🙂 Can’t wait to make balm and soap.

Awesome! Beef tallow is great to use, too! That will be fun to use the homemade tallow in the homemade soap and balm. I hope it all turns out well for you. 😁

Very nicely done, I have a guy that does this for me, but I have done myself on occasion, so I appreciate the effort bthat goes into this, thank you

Thank you! It's pretty fun if you're doing small batches, but I did about 90 pounds once and I can definitely see how contracting out that part would be helpful. :-)

Does your beef fat still have a smell? I've rendered three times and it still smells beefy. Good video x

It has a slight beef smell, but that completely disappears once the soap is made using fragrance. If the soap is unscented, it's reduced. The type of feed fed to the animal and rendering temperature can affect the smell too. I try and keep the temp as low as possible and I personally think grass-fed has a stronger smell.

Can I use trim fat for tallow soap, or does it need to be suet?
@SoapAuthority Жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, you can use trim fat, but the quality of your finished soap will be different. It will probably be softer, depending on your recipe and the percentage of beef fat used.

using 50% tallow, 22.6% coconut oil and 22.6% olive with a 6% superfat and 33% lye concentration @@SoapAuthority

@@TheEveryMinuteMom That's a lot of tallow, so it's way more likely to be a really soft bar. The coconut and olive oil don't make super-hard bar either. If it had palm oil, that would help. You can always try a small batch to see how it goes. That way you'll know for sure.

gotcha! I have suet rendered so will work with that since I need, need some soap but will experiment with the other kind later. Thank you! @@SoapAuthority

What kind of tallow this?
@SoapAuthority2 жыл бұрын
In this video I used deer tallow. It's slightly harder than beef suet, but the process is the same for both.

The gelatin and meat for dogs or cats or some birds.
@SoapAuthority2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The meat went in the freezer for the dogs, but I didn't think of saving the gelatin. Excellent advice! I'll do that next time. It's good nutrition.
