Great to see just the core of the Rat Pack. Sammya's impressions were the center piece of the entire show. And this was the golden age of impressions; most stand-up comics did impressions.

Dean Martin always looked like he was having the best times. Even his Roast Show he would laugh his head off... He was the best....

@soapbxprod Thanks! The sharpness is astonishing, I've never seen film of Martin and Lewis live or the Rat Pack (except for the St. Louis show, of course) with such crystalline clarity. I noticed that during a Martin and Lewis appearance, the camera operator switched lenses for a close-up of Lewis singing.

Oh!! I didn't know who he was trying to do! Thanks for clearing that up for me. And I agree it was great when he began the Barrymore bit and Dean fell off the stool! Hysterical!!

Wish I was there that night. I was born in the wrong time. Wish the boys were still around in their prime. Oh wait, they would be considered, racists, woman haters and looked down on because they smoked. Forget it, just move me back to 1960.

Trinity4h Maybe he was thinking of when Jerry did the same impression of Brando on one of their CCH shows years before....

@soapbxprod I've never seen a similar close-up in any of the Vegas Rat Pack footage, perhaps because there so many of them moving around so much that the camera operator just threw up his hands and left the wide-angle lens in all the time. I'm not complaining, though. Lewis said he sat in the back and watched one of their shows once with Martin not realizing it and concluded that Martin's experience with club comedy drove their shows; Sinatra had basically only sang in live appearances.

90% of the Rat Pack show is made up of the material that Martin & Lewis brought to the stage, especially Lewis. And Sammy ALWAYS played Jerry. As if he were there with them.

As a suggestion, for the upcoming theatrical film biography of Sinatra in production and to be directed by Martin Scorsese, what about Robert Downey Jr. to play Sinatra? He has the acting chops, as evidenced by his Academy nominated portrayal of Chaplin, he has a similar physical stature and he is better casting than Leonardo DiCaprio.

The purity of the act. That useless Joey Bishop and the absolute nothingness of Peter Lawford aren't there to suck up the core act's oxygen. But the impression thing is just tedious and none of them are any good. Even Samya's and he was supposed to be so great at it.
