I noticed a crack in the top of your soap before it was unmolded. I have also made a coffee soap which started to crack. This happened to me twice with coffee soaps. The 2nd time I put it in the fridge to cool it fast so the crack didn't get worse. Why is that?

Dear soaping101, I'm really interested in making soap. It would be a great hobby plus I can help out my family. The only this is I have no clue as to where to buy the supplies and at a cheap cost. You see, in living check by check can you please make a video on how to get started in soaping? Like what do you need and how much it costs?

Yaisha Diaz Hardware: stick blender, stainless steel pot, glass/steel container for lye, soap molds (you can find homemade ones either- I use washed empty plastic containers from takeouts) . Ingredients for a basic soap are oils (coconut, olive, castor are common) , lye granules also called caustic Soda (I get mine in the hardware) and perhaps some fragrance oils.

why do you use olive pomace oil instead of cold pressed olive oil
@soaping101

Pomace olive oil has a high peercentage of unsaponifiables. It is akin to a built in superfat.

Why do you put the caffeine powder in the soap?
@MuzikGuru1
@MuzikGuru1 9 жыл бұрын
Caffeine powder is used in soap to reduce the appearance of cellulite. It also gives your skin a near perfect pH balance.
@kinkywombat2388
@kinkywombat2388 7 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. Even if caffeine in soap affected the pH balance of your skin, whether it balanced the pH would depend on what the pH was to begin with. In any case, research has shown that the amount of caffeine absorbed through the skin from a caffeine-rich soap is negligible, unless you spend all day covered in the lather.

I learnt from a really good book called Soap Naturally and I agree, not much survives the saponification process, it gets to such high temperatures. Vitamin E and the like is another one that wouldn't survive the saponifcation process. I usually only make goats milk soap or oatmeal soap very nice on the skin. I've heard that caffeine is good for the skin and I would use skin creams with it in.
@MuzikGuru1
@MuzikGuru1 7 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Caffeine does indeed effect cellulite, but the "results" only last a few hours.
@kinkywombat2388
@kinkywombat2388 7 жыл бұрын
Catherine Ruby Caffeine absorbed through the skin can give you buzz, but it needs to be quite high concentration. The University of Newcastle (in the UK) has/had a department that researched the absorption of various substances through the skin. If you're interested in this kind of thing it's worth hunting down their research. Personally, I make no claims about the therapeutic benefits of my soap, partly because that would push me into a different legal category as far as labelling and stuff, but mostly because I'm not a dermatologist and I think it's grossly irresponsible to tell people something which I have no idea is true or not.
