Seems just like yesterday (wish I had started sooner lol) Ahh yes you'll learn some tips and tricks from my videos as I always add certain additives like sugar, sodium lactate, salt and sodium gluconate. The salts / sodium help a lot with longer lasting bars as well as using a water discount. You can check out my website to see how they are packaged 🙏

I love your videos, I now use sodium lactate, salt and sugar in the soap I make and I love it, the bars have a much nicer lather and come out of the molds so much easier. How do you calculate the sugar and salt amout that one should add to a recipe? Is it based on the amont of water or oil? Also for the water discount comments - you said you use 25 as a water to oil ratio, do you mean water as a PERCENT of oils is 25? Ive never heard of a water discount expresses as water to oil "ratio". I'm just trying to back-calculate to see where I'm at, I usually use a 35% lye solution and don't know if that's higher or lower than what you use. THANK YOU!

You will find this blog post useful regarding additives - www.dawnorganics.com.au/blogs/posts/faq-regarding-soap-additives They're always calculated as a percentage of your oils. In terms of water discounting there is an option in the lye calculator to select water as a percentage of oils, I use 25%, so 250g of water per 1000g of oil. I don't use lye concentration so I wouldn't be able to tell you the equivalent 🙏

Sometimes I just leave them depends on the blend, I do tend to pack them after a full 12 weeks of curing, with a very big water discount in my recipe and a dehumidifier running in the room. I'm continuously making extra so need the curing shelf room

No problem. If you have really hard water I suggest 3% citric acid. Lyecalc will tell you how much you need and the extra lye required. Also a really good solid recipe is 30% coconut, 60% olive and 10% shea. 🙏

Hi! Really loved your video about making a well rounded bar of soap. Also, your citric acid video really saved me when I was making my first batch of cp soap two nights ago 😅 my measurements at first were way off! I was wondering if you had any thoughts about formulating good bars of soap and animal fats? I know most of the videos here are vegan. How do you think the recipe would change if I used an animal fat? Also, how would it affect the bar if you used powdered sugar instead of raw sugar? Again, awesome videos and I’m off to watch more!

Thanks Amanda, much appreciated. I really can't say, I've never made soap with tallow. I have read people use up to 50% of it with success, usually couples with coconut and/or olive oils. I'm pretty sure you could go to 100%. Just re-run the recipe through LyeCalc. Glad to have saved your calculations, it can be tricky at first! You can use any type of sugar, as long as no additives, whether white, brown, raw, or castor sugar 🙏🙏🙏

@@amandabriones8821 I'm pretty sure tallow is a good cleaning soap, at higher percentages. Maybe good to couple it with a nice conditioning oil like olive oil. They would most definitely change the overall conditioning of the bar like how much coconut oil you add.

@@amandabriones8821 Yes dissolve all in the water before adding the lye. For Sodium Lactate you add it later when the lye water is cool below 50C / 122F You would want to stick with a 5% Superfat, I don't recommend going over that, unless you're making a facial bar or a pure coconut oil bar. Facial bars are good to have over 80% olive oil with 10% Superfat, and the pure coconut 20-25%. Is tallow easy to get for you? I would just stick with olive and coconut oil. If you're having to render it yourself that's a big job. Some people like doing it.

Thanks for watching. Pomace olive oil is fine, it will trace a little quick like virgin olive oil so be sure to soap at room temperature. Pomace is usually chemically extracted though, can always try a small batch and see how you like the skin feel. If you're not using Sodium lactate, then 1.5% salt is more than fine. 3% sugar is what I use for all my recipes. Dissolve them in the water before adding the lye 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Janet, I have in the past, I added them to my oils and blended them in. They turned out fine, give it a try. Alternatively you can add them to water and freeze them and do the ice / lye method 🙏

I love castor oil, I use it in some of my recipe's. My favourite is Coco Olive, quiet popular also, don't fix what ain't broke as they say. So I leave it as is, My almond bars though, I do add some castor oil, and to some of my liquid soaps. Oh that's very nice, bet it would be amazing quality also. I currently have a lot on hand, but thank you 🙏🙏🙏

Not even remotely similar. Sodium lactate is a natural product, a liquid salt from fermented vegetable sources.
