I've watched many booktubers, but I think you have a way of talking about books and opening discussions that I haven't seen before, and it's very refreshing. Right on Elizabeth ! As alway, thank you for using your voice to stand up for and with so many people, issues and animals! I know it’s so much easier to just focus on book reviews and BuJos. One of the reasons I subscribed to your channel was when you stood up some followers’ negative comments about an issue. I adored Take a Hint, Dani Brown! Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes and I really liked the two main characters. As for The Stone Sky it had a little too many sci-fi aspects to it (I'm not into sci-fi) for my liking but DAMN! What an ending! I think an adaptation would help me visualize the world and story better as well. There were too many scenes where I felt my brain overheating and not grasping what was going on. I will be checking out her Inheritance series as well some time in the future.

I always love these wrap-ups :) you're very eloquent in expressing your opinions. I recently finished 'The Children of Time' which is on Audible and it was the best book I've read in ages. I don't want to hype it up too much, but if the survival of the human race and how spiders would develop their capabilities if given the chance interest you in the slightest I would highly recommend it :) There is a second book I haven't gotten to yet, but the first one had a satisfactory ending and stands on its own feet quite well.

I think you may enjoy the The Legends of the First Empire Series by Michael Sullivan. The first book is like a character setup for the rest of the series, but it is so interesting. It is adult high fantasy that plays with the idea of colonization, linguistics, technology, and human evolution (also the magic system is super interesting). I just can't recommend it enough because it is so interesting. Also, the author wrote an entire series for his wife because she fell in love with a character... nothing is more cute than that 🥰

One of the best books I've read in March is The Savior's Champion by Jenna Moreci, it's the first book of The Savior's Series. The genre is dark fantasy romance, and I've never been much of a fantasy reader, but besides of course the action taking place in a fantasy world and magic being involved etc it is also a great studium of people in the real world in general and how some circumstances can totally change us and make us do things we would never even consider doing. It's not flawless, I must say, but I really am looking forward to read the second (out now) and the third (in the making) book in the series. Just throwing that in there in case someone or Elizabeth herself would want to check the book out because it's really worth it.

re: my dark Vanessa, When I was in high school my health teacher told us that teen females absorb the home environment and repeat in adult life. That always stuck with me. Up to that point, I only thought of romantic relationships in ONE way. Man and woman meet, fall in love, get married, like in the "Notebook". Now I was like, "oh! there are other possibilities?" and not all of them were positive. That is when I learned that violence, abuse, and such, are learned patterns that stay with you. Relating to this book, society has a way of making it easier or harder for men to treat women this way. Some men are just gross and will do whatever they can get away with. They target women who were *taught* to be obedient to men, same with cults, they target teens who come from abusive households, it's easier to manipulate them.
@PlantBasedBride
@PlantBasedBride 3 жыл бұрын
I think this can happen to anyone, regardless of gender! We learn so much about how relationships should work and how to go about our lives as an adult from what’s modeled to us by parents or other adults in our lives. This is how cycles of abuse perpetuate themselves, sadly.

Please read The Surface Breaks by Louise O'Neill. It's a reimagining of The Little Mermaid but it's totally different. It's about feminism and finding strength in a world where women / mermaids are nothing more than a prize men can win. But the moral of the story is beautiful - just as the writing style. I listened to the audio book and I loved the voice of the speaker. All in all I can highly recommend it

Winter's Orbit was my SFF book club's pick for March! Mostly, I liked it. But my book club was kind of more indifferent about it. I think the biggest complaint, though, was there needed to be more worldbuilding. We wanted to know more about the bear/birds/etc. (That said, I think some of the aspects kind of missed the mark for my book club because they are mostly cis/het white women, such as the gender signaling, which I think Maxwell did pretty well.) Oh, there will be a sequel/companion novel and we were all hoping it focuses on Bel.

Oh how interesting! I love seeing how different people interpret the same work. I personally thought the world building was quite excellent, though I definitely would’ve ate it up if there was even more. I found the political system, the characters, and central relationships so intriguing and loved the way Maxwell represented the lingering effects/trauma of domestic abuse.

@@PlantBasedBride Yeah, Jainan's entire story at the beginning and the growing unease of how his relationship with Thaam must have been was SO well done. It was a very great example of "show, don't tell." I want to know more about the different worlds, though, so I am glad there will be another book in this universe.

Why are all the books LGBTQ+ ? Would like to see more variety..
@PlantBasedBride
@PlantBasedBride 3 жыл бұрын
Not all of the books have LGBTQ+ representation, it’s closer to 50%. Regardless, cis straight characters are by far the majority, and I’m not sure how reading more stories centering those experiences would be introducing more variety of identities into my reading. The LGBTQ+ community is not a monolith and contains so many different identities, sexualities, and experiences. That’s true variety!
