Ok, here I am a Japanese person talking. At the interview, he never said “I talked to the fan.” I directly quote what he said here. He said, “ Talked to the fan.” Do you see there’s no “I” in his sentence. We, Japanese omit a subject very often. Like when I ask my kids if they ate snacks, I would ask them, “Ate snacks?” Instead of saying, “Did you eat snacks?” Similar thing happened with Ohtani. He wasn’t sure who talked to the fan who caught so he couldn’t identify the subject in his sentence so he said “Talked to the fan.” Then the interpreters said , “I talked to the fan.” Which is a mistake but I kinda understand that the interpreter thought that Ohtani said “I talked” because the way Ohtani said it was kinda very smooth and and it was very difficult to identify who talked to the fan. Then I think that if it were Ippei, maybe he would have translated it better because Ippei would have known every single move that Ohtani makes. I mean Ippei would have known that Ohtani didn’t talk to the fan that day. Ohtani didn’t know who talked to the fan. Was it someone from the management, the security guy, or any special person to handle the home run ball ? Also, it sometimes impolite to use “someone” when referring to literally someone😅 So, explaining who someone might be in a polite way is kind of long when he doesn’t even know who it was, and the interview is usually very short, it was best for him to omit the subject in his sentence what happened that’s night. Here is what I think he really meant. “Someone from the team, I’m not sure who that person is, talked to the fan. Since it’s a special ball for me, I appreciate the fact that the ball was given to me.” One more thing. I think Ippei would have said “ i heard that someone from the team talked to the fan and he/she kindly gave me the ball.” This is what Ohtani really meant! Hopefully, the traumatized dodgers management ( from Ippes’s gamble thing) comes up and clarify what Ohtani meant. Better late than never’

1st of all you make NO decisions without your husband. They should’ve discussed this as soon as she caught the ball. If I got the ball I would’ve handed it to my hubby. It is what it is but now they’re on the internet upset about it😫

You gotta be a bit a assertive when in this position. Don’t be rude, but let them know right away what you’re looking for in return… They most likely took the more passive approach (which is fine). If from the very jump, they had asked for a picture with Ohtani w the ball, they might’ve had a better shot… Go Dodgers ⚾️ ☄️

That's cool, Two hats and a bat? Nice Hey, Dicks sports has a lot of those. You know what they don't have? The first Home Run ball that Ohtani hit as a Dodger! Do you have any Idea what that ball could bring in Japan? The story about the Dodgers telling the couple they weren't going to allow Ohtani to sign it. and carrying on, With that story all over the news, only adds to the value of the ball.

I’m the biggest Ohtani fan there is, but he needs to address this. He needs to do something special for her. I hope they told Ohtani what’s going on. Maybe he doesn’t realize what happened.

@@musashi-san____1409based on what we’ve seen of Ohtani as someone with great character, I have to lean more toward his being clueless about the situation. Aloof even. That just makes more sense coming from him because it’s hard to believe he’d intentionally lie about meeting her and was condoning the disgusting behavior of the dodgers staffers.

Such a bad bad deal. That ball alone right now, today could sell for thousands of dollars. Just imagine what it will sell for 20/30 years from Now. I don’t know whether i fully agree with the whole “Ohtani is our generations babe Ruth” or not, but that’s what is being advertised so that is what it will be. Think of what a babe Ruth first home run ball would sell for. X10 that that is what Ohtani will go for when all is said and done

Foolish decision on their part. They are fans that were taken advantage of, MLB does not give a damn about it's fans. It's a business to them and they should not have any problem doing business with the fans when it comes to situations like this. The Dodgers bring in hundreds of millions of dollars a year, their star players earn millions a year but these greedy, cheap bastards bullied this woman and gave her a few trinkets for a ball that could have brought in $100,000 and if she refused what they offered they might not have authenticated the ball. One fan in millions is lucky enough to catch a ball that has some value and these cheap scumbags can't offer them what it is worth on the open market, a lot to the fan but a drop in the bucket to the Dodger's, she didn't even get to meet Ohtani and they lied and said she did.

I'm starting to think Ohtani only has baseball smarts. He's really starting to (no pun intended) drop the ball here... 1. Repeatedly wrecking his pitching arm by letting his ego push himself to rarely take days off for rest. He wants to prove he can be superman and hardly ever let the coaches at the Angels take him out of the line-up...but obviously he's not superman because he demolished his arm again. 2. 2024 money will compound and accrue interest, becoming much higher in 10 years. His opting to defer and back-load his salary...not bright. 3. Either entrusting his translator with his finances or the other scenario of actually being the one who was gambling and then blaming his translator....sloppy and not bright. 4. But this latest one is probably the worst. Ohtani doesn't understand where the greatest value comes in sports entertainment, over the long run. And that is image and likeability, which makes a B line to merchandising and marketing. Americans have an innate sense when it comes to personal character That homerun ball, not even that special when you consider his other HR milestones and it's not even his first in the country or MLB, would be a lot more valuable to him if he just gave it away to that couple, from a PR perspective. When the public sees him wanting to keep that for himself, he appears arrogant and selfish...translation, less jersey sales. He's not seeing the big picture. He needs a public relations guru asap.
