@K2theArMAX That is how Dhalsim was designed to be played. He's not a rushdown or midscreen character. His whole gameplan is to force you to find a way in.

people are talking about bad matchups? daigo always plays with ryu and can beat anyone with ryu so he never needs to change nor does he change based on "matchups." filipino champ won because he is the currently the best sf4 player in the world right now. give credit where credit is due and stop talking about matchups. this is DAIGO UMEHARA we're talking about.

@@snakebebop Wrong. I doubt Daigo played a factor in their balancing decision with the release of SSF4 in 2010. (he hadn't even won his second evo yet because Super came out before that years EVO) Ryu objectively needed his damage toned down, and they did just that. They toned down the damage & chip damage on all 3 versions of his regular Shoryukens, lowered his U1 damage, made his fireballs do 10 less damage, and made it harder to combo into U1 off of anti air trades. (You can only do that near the corner now) Other than those overall damage nerfs they actually gave him a few BUFFS going into Super SF4 because they still felt like he was fine. (He was) And with everyone else getting buffed in Super + new characters added + Capcom having a better idea how to balance the game this time around, Ryu ended up being in a pretty good place in SSF4. Then in AE he got a mixture of buffs and nerfs but nothing to crazy, maybe Daigo played a role in that, but probably a small one.

@TheTaiyakiGuy Then what is your opinion of the matchup. General consensus is that it's 6-4 Dhalsim. It's definitely winnable for Ryu though this doesn't change the fact that its an uphill battle for Ryu players. Especially if you try playing Ryu against godlike Dhalsims like YHC-Mochi, Arturo, Filipino Champ etc. They know very well how to lock Ryu down lol. I'm not complaining about it. Every character's going to have their bad matchups. It's part of what makes fighting games interesting.

I'm guessing the commentator is a Dhalsim fan Dhalsim meanwhile has been ascending the power scale along with Ryu. I think that F Champ is good at this game because he's very cautious and yet very daring which is a perfect and dangerous mixture for anyone facing his Dhalsim. Though Daigo could have done it if he more carefully analyzed Champs movements because Dhalsim has a lot of punishable options. I myself am still learning how to both counter and play Dhalsim.

@giovannihsg Daigo was put in the Loser's bracket by Filipino Champ during the normal games. He then went on to win against Tokido and beat Filipino Champ in the Grand Finals Set 1. That means both of them were put into Loser's bracket, so they were back on even footing and it was down to whoever won the final set.

@dragonzord250 kinda...dhalsim's strategy is to keep the opponent away so when the opponent gets in, they will already have less than half their health, and it's really hard to get it. But dhalsim's got a huge weakness: he's got no good wakeups (excluding his super and ultra) so when you get in, dhalsim is pretty mcuh dead. (well, most of the times)

@b7ray32 its not so much zoning/running and hiding as much as it is spacing in my opinion. in any fighting game, it is all about spacing. but yea, filipino champ does turtle, but if it works, it works. but its not to say that the likes of dhalsim cant be offensive, too. of course its more fun to play other characters, but if dhalsim wins, then it wins.

@TheTaiyakiGuy Lol then what's your definition of a 6-4 matchup. 6-4 means that one of the characters have a significant advantage but not as much advantage as a 7-3/8-2. 6-4 is definitely winnable for the character with a disadvantage. Characters have to work even harder if they are at a disadvantage in 7-3/8-2 matchups. If non of the two character have any significant advantage over one another then the matchup would be a 5-5.

@adijarca No...you clearly don't play street fighter or are inexperienced. This game isn't about combos or special moves. Its about space. The whole point is to look at the spacing, see why he did what he did. How each move could have been punished, how they control the screen, and the mindgames they set up.Oh its not cheap, every good street fighter player uses projectiles or good moves over and over.

@TheTaiyakiGuy In which post did i imply that Dhalsim-Ryu was too unfair for Ryu? In which post did I overstate Dhalsim's advantages against Ryu? Lol I said was that it was an uphill battle for Ryu. Ryu has to work harder than Dhalsim in the matchup. And if the Dhalsim player is really good they will be able to give the Ryu player a hard time. Of course that doesn't mean the matchup is totally unfair for Ryu. Like I said, its totally winnable for Ryu lol.

@TheTaiyakiGuy Lol Daigo KNOWS the matchup. He plays toe-to-toe with amazing Dhalsims like YHC-Mochi in Japan all the time. Daigo lost because he was simply outplayed by Filipino Champ at the very last set. Daigo lost 3-2. He wasn't free. Dhalsim-Ryu matchup favors Dhalsim. Every match for Daigo against a good Dhalsim is an uphill battle. IMO, Daigo plays very well against Dhalsim compared to other Ryus. He always shows profound knowledge of the matchup that I don't see in other Ryu players.

@VashxShanks Well, apparently those play styles are the styles that these two players in particular feel is better for the character they're playing. It may be different, and sometimes downright boring to watch, but they're making money off of it, so even if you don't respect how they play because of the flaws, you have to respect the time and effort put into perfecting how they play.

@TheTaiyakiGuy Lol like I said Daigo lost because Filipino Champ outplayed him. Knowing the matchup doesn't automatically guarantee you the win. Filipino Champ knows the matchup as well and used Dhalsim's strengths against Ryu to his advantage. I never said the match was unfair. Daigo always had the choice to switch to some other character like Cammy who plays better against Dhalsim. Daigo and Filipino Champ played the characters they wanted to play and Daigo lost fair and square.
