One of the best aviation videos I've seen on KZbin and trust me... I spend a lot of time on here haha. Really well done and super informative and GREAT close ups of the HDX. Seems like a really cool system. I am so used to G1000 that I am scared to try anything else out there but this seems like a system that's easy to use and pretty clear. I just really don't like the low frame rate of the runway passing by in the synthetic vision.
@SoCalFlyingMonkey4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I hadn’t really noticed the runway frame rate until someone else also commented about it. I don’t disagree but I can say that by the time the runway is that big in frame i am for sure not looking at the screen anymore. :)

Awesome!! I currently rent a C172S with the G1000/GFC700 for my Commercial training. I learned to fly on the old steam gauges in Cessna and Piper aircraft in the 90’s...what we have available now just blows my mind! I had the best and worst IFR Checkride ever when I experienced two equipment failures during the test (NavCom and DG), we continued on based on my choice and I still passed the ride. If I was flying one of these TAA birds, very very small chance that would’ve ever happened. I love how much capability these systems have. I regularly fly IFR with the G1000 and it’s a dream, so easy to manage and a wealth of information and situational awareness. Only downside for the newer pilots...make sure you still get some experience on the old analog instruments because it is a skill that can save you on a bad day. Don’t get over reliant on the tech where you lose the basic skills. Awesome video!!

Hello - very good review, and I really enjoy your content! We are in the process of refitting a Cherokee with the HDX System. One correction - at 2:06, in relation to the need for the EFIS-D10A, there is a graphic that states “or another 10” or 7” display”. From our conversations with Dynon, this is not correct. A system may have up to three 7” or 10” panels (in any combination), but the current STC requires use of a D10A for instrument backup. This is to ensure system’s independence incase of an electrical and/or communication bus malfunction. The folks at Dynon are very helpful and responsive to all of the questions we’ve had so far!

While it’s been a few years since your video it offers a really nice real-time user experience review. I think you nailed it in your conclusion about the capability per dollar in the Dynon system compared to other brands offerings. It seems like the new D30 standby has corrected some of the shortcomings of the D10 with the main exception of integrated barometric pressure setting like you see in the Garmin panels using the GI275, not a deal breaker in my mind.

Referencing 5:10 into video: Is a gas filled strut an option that can be utilized in an effort to prevent door slams among other benefits, for those that may want such an option? Same question goes for the rear door/s... Thanks!

yes that is an option

My analogue AI and vacuum pump were fitted in 1959 and operated just fine for 50+ years. My Aspen was fitted and failed 2.5 years later. Glass gives much better SA but it is not more reliable imho.

Wow! So glad I stumbled upon your channel! Excellent, Excellent video. I had already been talking with Jesse about installing the HDX in my Bonanza. You confirmed everything I had been thinking about cost/value and gave a really well done overview of the Skyview system. Can't wait to fly behind it. Subscribed!

@@SoCalFlyingMonkey I'm glad you're pleased. He seems like a great guy. I'm no camera professional, but I've got a little youtube channel too. I document some Bonanza stuff, and I'm also restoring a Taylorcraft. Check it out when you get a chance.

That's a great question....I am pretty happy with how things turned out. I would advise to really shop around and find the right fit for avionics shop. I am really glad I made the trip to Florida to get the work done by Saint Aviation. They did a nice job for sure at a great price. I do wish Dynon had their AP certified for my airplane model. Maybe one day they will make it happen... I still like the Trutrak but the Dynon AP would be nice!

Great showcase of the SkyView. A very capable and full-featured unit. The glare on that screen is insane though. Have you considered an anti-glare treatment?

it's mostly just the way the camera captures it. i have no trouble with it in real life.

Wow! I never really thought of Dynon before. Beautiful and capable display! It looks like IAs can install this so that would be cheaper that $120/hr shop rate. You just sold me on this!!

Gad the video is helpful to you. I have really been enjoying the HDX. I have found it to be an incredible value. So many features and a long track record of a product that works very well. I would definitely consider it if you are upgrading your panel.
