Wow I never even noticed this. I never understood why players would make these diagonal runs knowing they wouldn't get the ball. But the dragging of defenders really is the reason.

I thought this video was indirectly useful to wingers as well, since it taught me to learn how to make use of the diagonal runs of your centre forward to dribble into the space created. In fact, I think that this knowledge can be applied in other positions as well, to recognise the space created when an opponent traces the run of your teammate, so that sometimes, instead of forcing the through pass, it may be easier to just take the ball into the space vacated. After all, such runs can be used to distract the opponent, and you can further trick the defence by feinting the pass to your running teammate before taking the ball into space. probably keep in your position and not to be to close to your man. Don't be too aggresive is what I'm trying to say. I think zonal marking is a good way of avoiding these problems.
