I think the cyclone stud pattern is actually a pretty neat design from Nike. While I personally prefer conical stud patterns (all my boots are conical, bad knees lol), a lot of people don't like them because they don't give you the lateral and push-off grip that bladed studs do. The cyclone design alleviates some of the risk of injury, while maintaining a lot of the advantages that bladed studs do. It functionally makes sense for this type of design to make it's way into more aggressive boots like the Mercurials, and it's potentially a marketing goldmine for Nike as well (safety + performance bundled into one). I wouldn't be surprised if future Mercurials have some variation of the cyclone stud pattern

Love the video comparison. I agree with J, I have worn only AG Nike phantom boots since doing acl about 3 years ago, and have been totally fine ever since. (Don’t want to brag but I’m a pretty important centre mid player for my team! Also I mostly play on fg fields, sometimes ag). Maybe it’s mental thing but I do think that ag studs Nike do for the phantom GT 1 and 2 are very good for freedom and ease of movement on the pitch. Super comfortable. Considering buying phantom GX in ag for next season

Just bought the GX, thought the stud pattern would be too short, but it feels just as aggressive(if better) than the Mercurial’s(my previous boot). Prefer the feel of the DF because of the mid-cut collar but prefer the lacing system on the low-cut GX. Personal preference. Didn’t like the Luna “GripKnit” at all. The Sole plate surprised me👍🏼 still, i’d go with the GX every day of the week!

Puma ultra ultimate is better as long as you don’t get stepped on. If you do, that’s a trip to the hospital. It’s crazy how thin the upper is, your basically barefoot

Phantom gx for sure. The Lunas are built for women and overall have a much tighter fit to suit women better, where on the other hand phantom gxs are very wide fit and comfortable.

Yeah. The Luna is one of those weird grey area products. The marketing is women focused, but anyone can go out and wear these. I tend to like some firmness in the upper, in a vacuum I think I would be a fan of the Luna performance wise. However these boots and I don't exist in a vacuum, there are other options out there. Out of the current Nike lineup these would be my last choice. And the weird vertical swoosh isn't helping. Don't know if the Luna is some sort of one off throwaway silo to test how viable a 4th silo is in this modern day. Just some baseless speculation.

The Luna is a women's World Cup summer marketing strategy. That's both the long and short of it. It's not going to be a permanent, long-term boot silo for the company.

Do you think more amateur players buy turf shoes than FG cleats? Everywhere I play I only see turf shoes, and it's odd you don't cover them.

Really depends on the field you play in. If it's turf then more players would definitely use Turf boots. FG boots are not recommended on playing on turf due to a higher chance of injury.

In the Pacific Northwest where I live almost all the fields are turf due to the wet weather in the winter. However it’s nearly impossible to find AG shoes sold locally.
