My name was suggested by my late grandfather. My parents both had their names beginning with S, so they wanted to name me something pretty and meaningful with an "S". My grandfather had decided the name even before I was born: Sanjukta. It means togetherness. Since I'm a Bengali, I was given two names. My parents then decided to call me Mohor, which basically means asset or gold coin. They said I was a precious gift to them, and now that is my nick name.

Both the novel and the film revolves around the eponymous Dr. Agnishwar who is an extremely honest doctor and a good man as depicted in the film. I actually really love the meanings behind our Indian names. When you get to learn the meaning, sometimes it really impacts you as well how carefully your name was chosen. Sometimes it signifies hopes and wishes for the kid, blessings, sometimes what our parents/grandparents wish our life would be like, what we achieve whether success or happiness or health and prosperity...I know change is inevitable, but I hope this doesn't change too much and people still give their kids meaningful names. The thing with Sanskrit names, or names in old languages/inspired from them is how one word, one syllable can hold such intricate meanings... I really cherish my name and it brings me joy when I think of how my grandfather chose it for me, especially now that he's not here. Thinking of it brings those memories back

9:05 , i wanna add something here as i am also a native uttarakhandi. Ganga Ram = lower caste Ram Ganga = Upper caste Name of gods used after real name is done by lower caste , see GANGA ram TULA ram , vice versa for upper caste people. This Sanskritisation is really helping to reduce discrimination , generally people of grandparents age r now have that discrimination type feeling, In coming times this little discrimination also ends with the end of that old generation ❤️

This trend is not just restricted to India. The Urban Rich People in other Asian countries like china, south korea, japan name their kids which sounds less Asian(White names) and they all have one thing in common- They want their kid to study in US or Europe: white sounding names are less likely to face racism. But in Indian context, shift towards globalised names is more like a Class Establishing Phenomenon. Rich parents want their kid to have fancy names which is Kyra, myra, ayan, at present but will change with time.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, a man named Vasili Arkhipov pretty much single handedly saved the world from nuclear war. USA had imposed a naval blockade on Cuba in response to the Soviets stationing nuclear missiles there (barely a few hundred kms from the coast of Florida). WW3 seemed inevitable. A Soviet submarine was detected and followed by American ships in the Carribean Sea. The Americans tried to get the submarine to surface through controlled explosions but the submarine crew interpreted it as the start of the war. The launch of nuclear missiles was approved by 2 of the 3 heads of the submarine crew but the third one, Vasili Arkhipov refused to authorize the launch.

I belong to Ho tribe of Jharkhand. In our culture we conduct a ceremony for naming the child in which we drop certain rice, urad dal and some more items in a brass vessel with water in it, while remembering or calling out a particular forefather or foremother's name and according to the floating pattern we decide to assign the name. Now following this tradition my name was assigned "Turam" (name of my mother's uncle/chacha my nana) and this name was very much common in my mother's side (5 members) so with little modification it was decided to name me "Tarun" instead but still I consider it my original assigned name. This tradition is slowly fading as I have seen this ceremony performed only once while naming my little cousin. Another interesting naming trait in this region is after favourite footballer's name since it's widely popular sport in the region, my another cousin is named after Robinho (famous Brazilian player).

I named my daughter Aadya and even though it conforms to the two syllables, aa-ending name theory we had two criteria while picking names: 1. We had to name her after Ma Kali because during my pregnancy, I had faced some problems and I used to visit the nearby Kali temple during those turbulent times. I felt a deep connection to the Goddess at that time and my baby feels like a gift from Ma Kali. 2. My husband wanted to pick a name starting with ‘A’ for our baby because that way she would end up being roll no. 1 (sorry baby, I know that’s evil) and that somehow is supposed to make the kid serious in studies. This eliminated most of Ma Kali’s names and left with Adya. And to ensure roll no. 1, my husband named her Aadya 😂

Most of arabic feminine names end with "ah" which Sounds "aa" in speaking ... For example 'aliyah" commonly known as 'aliya is actually feminine version of 'ali... Ali means high and 'aliyah" is a feminine version (she)high. Some more examples:- Jameel - jameelah (beautiful) Shakir - shakirah (thankful) FarHan - farHanah (very happy) The "H" sound is usually missed while speaking. But it doesn't mean that every girl name ends with "ah" sound in Arabic.

My name is krishna and I have named my daughter Gayatri. I appreciate the content and presentation of your video. It's true that many parents are naming their children purely going by 'uniqueness' criteria. What's there in a name? Sounds play very important role in our lives in shaping our feelings, tempers and emotions. Name is also a sound with which we are identified with for a life time. So a lot lies in a name.
